Selection Process

1.At the annual AMS Conference the Chair of the Board of Governors will appoint a committee of 3 Governors to identify candidates for the award and make a final selection for the AMS Marketer of the Year. The Board Chair also will either appoint the chair of the committee or instruct the committee to select its own chair.

2.A call for nominations will be sent to the Board of Governors and Distinguished Fellows by July 1 each year, and will also be published in the newsletter. In the call for nominations a description of the award will be provided. Individuals wishing to nominate someone will be asked to provide a brief statement (less than 100 words) describing what the individual has accomplished to be worthy of the AMS award. They will also be asked if to their knowledge the person has “at all times acted with integrity and high ethical standards.”

3.By September 15 the Chair of the nominating and selection committee will convene the committee (by phone or e-mail or otherwise) to rank order the candidates. This information will be then shared with the President of AMS and the Board of Governors. The president and the Board will give permission to proceed or ask the committee to reconvene to do additional work.

  1. Once the nominees have been approved contact will be made by the chair of the committee or his or her designate of the first person on the list and then subsequent persons if the first person declines.

5.The entire process should be managed so as to have the person selected by in time for them to be approved by the fall meeting of the executive council.
