Dress Code
As a Christian health care facility, all employees are expected to dress appropriately for the position that they hold at Mennonite Home Communities. Your goal should be to present an appearance that is professional, reasonable and in good taste. It is expected that employees will maintain a high degree of personal cleanliness. Because each department has requirements regarding “dress”, Department Directors will be responsible for determining whether an employee is in compliance with the general dress code as well as the specific Departmental dress code. Departmental dress codes SUPERSEDE the General dress code. It is for this reason that it is important to be aware and understand what is acceptable attire for your position.
It is expected that employees will observe the following general dress code guidelines:
· Employees must wear their ID Badge at all times.
· Minimal Jewelry; maximum of 2 pairs of earrings hoops no larger than the size of a quarter and one necklace. 1 stud nose earring no larger than the size of a pinhead. (All Food Service Workers see Department Specific Dress Code for jewelry)
· If a Resident finds a tattoo offensive you will be asked by your Supervisor to cover the tattoo
The following are considered inappropriate:
· Jeans (denim pants) of any color
· Leggings, stretch pants or sweats
· Dress shorts, shorts or skorts
· No T-shirts
· Sleeveless tops or low cut tops
· Facial piercing or gages (i.e., eyebrow, tongue, cheek, etc.)
· Any articles that are inappropriately tight, short or unkempt
· Unnatural hair color
· Flip flops
Department Specific Dress Codes
Professional Staff: should dress in professional/business attire including; Dresses, Skirts, Suits, Dress Slacks, Capri’s (must be professional and mid-calf). Shoes should be sturdy, professional and appropriate.
Healthcare/Personal Care (RN/LPN/NA/MedTech/RA):
Colored, patterned or white scrub top. Solid colored or white skirt, dress, slacks or capri’s –MUST BE UNIFORM MATERIAL. Shoes should be sturdy and supportive. No open toed shoes (direct care givers). No long nails; ¼” maximum length from finger tip (overlays and/or artificial nails are strongly discouraged due to infection control risk). Nails must be clean at all times.
Community Life Coordinators and Homemakers
Shoes need to be closed toe and back and be clean. Business casual pants, skirts, and shirts. Skirts must be at knee length or longer. No long or artificial nails. NO nail polish.
Mennonite Home Food Service Workers:
Any color-collared shirt; black or white pants or skirt. Black shoes –purchased thru MHC vendor. Hosiery with skirts; black or white socks with slacks. Apron (supplied by MHC). Hair net or cap (supplied by MHC). NO jewelry except wedding band, watch and 2 pairs of STUD earrings (1/4” max). NO long or artificial nails. NO nail polish.
Woodcrest Villa Food Service Workers:
White-collared shirt. Black skirt or slacks. Black shoes/sneakers; sturdy and supportive. Hosiery with skirts and socks with slacks. NO jewelry except for wedding band, watch, a small necklace and 2 pairs of STUD earrings (1/4” max.). No long or artificial nails. NO nail polish. Dishwashers must wear hair restraints at all times.
Mennonite Home/Woodcrest Villa Cooks:
White-collared shirt or chef jacket. White skirt, slacks, dress or chef pants (chef pants may have professional design). Black or white shoes; sturdy and supportive. Hosiery with skirt; white socks with slacks. NO jewelry except a wedding band and watch- NO earrings. No long or artificial nails. NO nail polish. Hair net or cap (baseball style caps may be worn.—Caps must be solid black or solid white).
Mennonite Home Laundry Aides:
Colored or patterned scrub top. Solid colored scrub pants –MUST BE UNIFORM MATERIAL. Or Business Casual Attire-Includes skirts, dresses, slacks, khakis/carhart or Capri’s (mid calf) with a solid colored or patterned Polo shirt or dress shirt. Shoes should be sturdy and supportive. No open toed/open back shoes. No long nails; ¼” maximum length from finger tip (overlays and/or artificial nails are strongly discouraged due to infection control risk). Nails must be clean at all times
Mennonite Home Housekeeping Staff:
Colored or patterned scrub top. Solid colored scrub pants –MUST BE UNIFORM MATERIAL. Or Business Casual Attire-Includes skirts, dresses, slacks, khakis/carhart or Capri’s (mid calf) with a solid colored or patterned Polo shirt or dress shirt. Shoes should be sturdy and supportive. No open toed/open back shoes. No long nails; ¼” maximum length from finger tip (overlays and/or artificial nails are strongly discouraged due to infection control risk). Nails must be clean at all times.
WCV Housekeeping Staff:
Business Casual Attire-Includes skirts, dresses, slacks, khakis/carhart or Capri’s (mid calf) with a solid colored or patterned Polo shirt or dress shirt. Shoes should be sturdy and supportive. No open toed/open back shoes. No long nails; ¼” maximum length from finger tip (overlays and/or artificial nails are strongly discouraged due to infection control risk). Nails must be clean at all times.
Maintenance Staff:
Maintenance personnel can wear t-shirts with pockets and no writing on them. Shoes that are sturdy and supportive.
Shorts can be worn when working outside. They must come down to the knees. You may not wear shorts for parking for funerals. Need to get approval from Director of Maintenance or Assistant Director of Maintenance when helping with functions from other departments. Can wear a ball cap when working outside, but not inside. It needs to be respectable.
Security Staff:
Security Officers will wear their security uniform when working, and will maintain a neat and professional personal appearance. Uniforms are to be worn only when working security, kept neat and clean, shirttails are to be tucked in at all times, belts must be worn at all times. Minimal jewelry shall be worn while working security. Jewelry is limited to a wedding band, a watch, 1 ring, 1 pair of earrings (1 earring in each ear), and 1 necklace or chain.
