Main purpose of the Job

The Recruitment and Training Executive (RTE) will be responsible for the whole volunteer Reading Helper (RH) recruitment journey, from enquiry to completion of training. Ensuring that RHs are of high quality, and are trained to a high standard in order to support identified children. The RTE will develop and deliver successful media campaigns to raise Beanstalk’s profile and attract and retain quality Reading Helpers. In particular he/she will:

  • Recruit; interview and train volunteers to deliver the Beanstalk service within a designated area.
  • Raise the profile of Beanstalk, develop and deliver comprehensive recruitment and marketing campaignsacross identified areas of need.
  • Work with the national communications and marketing officer to establish relationships with local media, and develop effective communication materials.
  • Deliver on-going further development training to support and retain existing volunteers.
  • Meet annual area needs and quality standards for recruitment and training as set out in the area business plan.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Recruitment of Volunteers/Reading Helpers (RHs)

  1. Responsible for meeting recruitmentneeds for volunteers in a timely manner and to Beanstalk quality standards.
  2. Lead on full RH recruitment journey, including; recruitment of volunteer Reading Helpers, including running recruitment campaigns to meet identified need and fulfil the requirements of funding contracts.
  3. Develop and maintain partnerships with community groups and organizations to promote Beanstalk’s service in target areas.
  4. Developlocal marketing campaigns to recruit RHs and liaise with local media to promote Beanstalk and the reading helper role.
  5. Maintain effective records for marketing and recruitment campaigns and to record all relevant information on Beanstalk’s operational database and evaluation system.
  6. Report monthly (or as required) on recruitment performance, and highlightany key successes,and provide robust explanations for any adverse variances to agreed performance targets.
  7. Support the Area manager in developing a volunteer recruitment plan for the area in line with Beanstalk’s growth plan and strategic partnership with Save the Children UK.
  8. Work closely with the Area Manager and the Partnership Liaison Executive to identify school and RH requirements, identify and deliver on targeted marketing areas and attend regular meetings.
  9. Contribute to area newsletters regularly.
  10. Accountable for monitoring and day to day management of the recruitment budget for the area.
  11. Provide any other assistance to the charity, from time to time, as determined by the supervisor or SMT.

Interview and Train prospective Reading Helpers

  1. Review applications from prospective reading helpers and interview those candidates who meet the reading helper criteria through a two stage selection/assessment process.
  2. Plan and deliver the standard 2 day reading helper training course in line with the training modules designed and agreed by Training and Development Group (TDG).
  3. Deliver further development and refresher training for reading helpers using the agreed Beanstalk training packages.
  4. Lead on ensuring that existing RHs attend refresher and updating training.
  5. Provide feedback and input to TDG and Quality Assurance Manager to assist the on-going development of Beanstalk’s training programmes and materials.
  6. Run evaluations of training activities and report to the Area Manager and Quality Assurance Manager.

Child Protection and Safeguarding

  1. Support the Area Manager to ensure all staff and volunteers strictly comply with Beanstalk’s child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures in the area
  2. Attend all relevant Safe from Harm and Safer Recruitment training as required
  3. Deliver Child Protection and Safeguarding training, including refresher training, to volunteers.
  4. Interviewing for DBS applications and counter signatory to applications.

Qualifications/
Education/ Knowledge / Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
Knowledge of NGOs
Knowledge of child protection issues
Knowledge of education sector
Knowledge of community groups and organisationsin the geographic area / Accredited training qualification at NVQ 4 or above
Accredited Human Resources or recruitment qualification at NVQ level 4 or above
Knowledge of local authority/educational services in relevant geographic area

Significant experience of interviewing candidates for employment/volunteering
Significant experience in delivery and facilitation of training and development events
Experience of designing and implementing recruitment campaigns, marketing and advertising strategies
Experience of working with child protection legislation and implementing good practice
Experience in evaluation of effectiveness of training interventions
Can demonstrate experience in planning and working to objectives and meeting operational targets and deadlines
Experience of analysing management information and making recommendations for action based on data.(e.g.: budgets, recruitment numbers)
Experience of representing an organisation to customers or stakeholders
Experience of working with DBS processes and systems / Organising networking/social events
