18th December 2015

Dear ISSC members and friends,

This message is to inform you about the dates and location of the next ISSC General Assembly (GA).

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT:

We are happy to announce that the 2016 ISSC GA will be hosted by our member the Research Council of Norway, in collaboration with Oslo University College, on 23-26 October 2016. For information about the college, please go to their website:http://www.hioa.no/eng/

We will hold a two-day GA followed by a one-day special scientific event. The outline of the draft GA programme is as follows:

-October 23: Arrival, registration and the last Executive Committee (ExCo) meeting of the 2013-2016 ExCo.

-October 24-25: a two-day GA immediately followed by the first meeting of the incoming 2016-2019 ExCo.

-October 26: A one-day scientific event onissues raised by the recent migration and refugee crises. This is a global phenomenon, affecting all continents. Analyzing and addressing these challenges requires the combined efforts of all the social sciences.

MEMBER ACTION REQUIRED by Friday 22 July 2016:

As agreed at the 2013 Montreal GA, the ExCo was mandated to undertakea review of the ISSC Constitution andBy-Lawsand make recommendations to the 2016 ISSC GA. Attached to this email are the suggested amendments as proposed by the Constitutional Review Working Group (15 October 2015). We would ask members to review this document and send us their comments three (3) months before the GA, by Friday, 22 July 2016.

Two working groups will soon be established, one taking care of all administrative and logistical issues relating to the GA, and the other in charge of the agenda for the scientific event. We will send you the concept paper for the scientific event early next year and invite the participation of our members and networks.

We do hope that you will be able to join us for what promises to be a very significant General Assembly.

With best regards

Vivi Stavrou
