Philip Oh Memorial Tournament Rules

  1. All teams must be registered with Hockey Alberta (HA) or similar association. Teams must register their team rosters upon request of the Tournament Committee
  2. Affiliates may only be used when a team has less than 12 rostered players available including goalies. Proper affiliate permits must be submitted to the tournament director prior to the day of the tournament
  3. Maximum 3 goals per game per player
  4. Any player assessed a match penalty will be suspended from further play in the tournament.
  5. Notice of suspensions will be forwarded to the HA or similar associations.
  6. The tournament Rules Committee will handle any appeals or concerns.
  7. Scoring format:

a)Win – 20 points

b)Tie – 10 points

c)Loss by 1 – 5 points

d)Loss by 2 – 4 points

e)Loss by 3 – 3 points

f)Loss by 4 – 2 points

g)Loss by 5 or more – 1 point

  1. Tie Breakers: Working with HA tie breaking rules

a)If the 2 teams that are tied played each other during the round robin, the winner of that game will be deemed the overall winner.

b)If there are more than two teams tied or the two teams tied did not play each other during the round robin, the following will be used to break the tie:

a)Most wins during the round robin

b)If still tied then , goal differential: Total goals for minus total goals against during the round robin.

c)If still tied then, lowest penalty minutes

d)If still tied the, a coin toss

  1. Overtime for Finals:

5 minute overtime (stop time) if tie remains;

1 minute 3 on 3 with goalies (stop time)

2 on 2 without goalies until a goal is scored

  1. Referee abuse will not be tolerated. One warning will be given, if abuse continues, the offender will be given a game misconduct. (Coaches included) The officials decision is final.
  2. Tournament Director/Committee has the right to further suspend coaches who are assessed game misconducts.
  3. OUT OF TOWN TEAMS: Final game starts may be altered to accommodate team travel. All changes, appeals, and decisions are at the discretion of the Tournament Committee.

Game format:

Round robin games are 1 hour with a 3 minute shootout to follow and heart and hustle awards

5 minute warm up

1st and 2nd periods 13 minutes stop time

3rd period 15 minute stop time. If the hour slot time is running out the tournament committee has the right to run the clock

Final Games are 1 hour with heart and hustle and medal ceremony to follow

1st and 2nd period 13 minute stop time

3rd period 15 minute stop time. If the hour slot time is running out the tournament committee has the right to runt he clock.

Philip Oh Memorial Tournament

Philip died tragically on December 10, 1996 in a motor vehicle accident on his way to University to write an exam. Philip was a remarkable young man with a very promising future- he was always friendly considerate and well spoken. His sincerity was evident in his big smile. Philip received all of his schooling in Beaumont and was in his third year of Business Administration, Majoring in International Business at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Philip enjoyed a variety of sports – his love of hockey began with the Can Skate Program from which he progressed to Tom Thumb and through the years to midget, All-Star and was called upon by the Beaumont Chiefs numerous occasions. Philip enjoyed other competitive team sports though school but mostly volleyball.

The Philip Ki JoonScholorship Foundation has been established by his loving parents. Paul and Yung Oh. The philosophy of the foundation is to lend support and provide excellent learning opportunities for individuals who demonstrate noteworthy talent and ability, who will strive to better society thereby fulfilling Philip’s dreams and goals. The Foundation is a non-profit organization which strives to achieve its goals toward the enhancement of education, sports and community participation.

In honour of Philip Oh Beaumont Amateur Hockey Association retired his jersey number 7.
