Tips for writing a good Book Review:

1. Try and “hook” the reader into wanting to read the book.

2. Talk about the setting and the main characters using character traits.

3. Accurately sum up the main events of the rising action. Identify the conflict or problem in the story.

4. Give reasons why you liked or didn’t like the book and support your opinion with some details. (Stars in Destiny)

5. Your teacher will be your editor.

6. Write the review in Word or Google Docs, spell check it, and then paste the review into Destiny. Remember, your review can be seen by all the students, teachers, and parents in the Tomball School District, so present yourself well by showing high quality work.

When your review is well written, without mistakes, Mrs. Doss will publish it.

Example Book Review:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling: Fantasy

Harry Potter’s miserable life with the Dursleys is about to change when he receives a strange letter in the mail telling him to go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. At Hogwarts, Harry meets two new magical friends named Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, on an adventurous train ride to Hogwarts.

Once there, all three classmates are sorted by a hat into the Gryffindor House. Harry discovers a great, but violent game called Quidditch, and faces the nightmare of his life – the one who killed his mother and father. Will Harry survive his first year at Hogwarts, and what does his scar have to do with the night his parents were killed?

This book will entertain you, and at the same time actually put a TV in your head. I would especially recommend this book to people that like action and an interesting story.

J.K. Rowling is known for writing the Harry Potter series. She is from the United Kindom.
