GENERAL

A.  Each school may enter three competitors per event.

B.  Competitors may enter up to three individual events.

C.  A competitor who competes in the relay event in his/her own age class may also compete in the open 1600m 4x400m relay, but may not compete in an additional age class relay.

D.  If a competitor does not compete in a relay event in his/her own age class, he/she may compete in a relay event in a higher age class.

E.  A school may enter only one team per relay event.

EVENTS FOR THE PHYSICALLY DISABLED

Girls - 800m blind, 100m ambulatory, 800m wheelchair Boys - 1500m blind, 100m ambulatory, 1500m wheelchair (there is no age class for these events) (see OFSAA Bulletin - March '94 for details)

"From OFSAA Bulletin" Track and Field and Cross Country

Any Track and Field (Cross Country) athlete participating in an OFSAA Championship must have participated as a member of a bonafide high school program during the school season (Track - March-June/Cross Country - September-November), in a minimum number of practices (10), at a location where the majority of their high school practices are held under the supervision of a teacher -coach as certified by the school principal.

AGE CLASSIFICATIONS

MIDGET - the individual's birth certificate indicates that he/she has not reached his/her 14th birthday by January 1st prior to the start of the school year in which the competition is held. Students may compete in this category for one year only in Grade 9

JUNIOR - the individual's birth certificate indicates that he/she has not reached his/her 15th birthday by January 1st prior to the start of the school year in which the competition is held.

SENIOR - the individual's birth certificate indicates that he/she has not reached his/her 19th birthday by January 1st prior to the start of the school year in which the competition is held.

ENTRY FORMS AND NUMBERS

1.  We are using Hy-Tek MEET MANAGER for Windows - Version 2.0 to run the meet.

2.  Each head coach will need to download Team Manager 2.0 lite from

http://www.hy-tekltd.com/downloads.html to do their entries.

3.  Paper entry forms are included. It is a good idea to make your entries on paper before you put them into the computer. Bring copies of these pages to the meet along with the printed copy of your entries from Team Manager.

4.  See instructions on sending entries in the file BAA T&F Entry Prodceedure.

5.  Entries will be posted on KDSS website - www.kdss.bwdsb.on.ca/baatrack.

6.  Numbers for your athletes will be picked up at the meet. (Numbers are to be worn on the back for all track events finishing in lanes, on the front for all other track events. Numbers may be worn front or back for all field events.)

ENTRY FEES

The entry fee will be a flat rate of $25 per school, plus $1.00 per athlete. Bring cheques to the meet written to “KDSS” or send with entries.

CWOSSA ENTRY FEE - $5 per event $10 per relay. Each school will pay their CWOSSA entry fees at the CWOSSA meet. Coaches should be aware that Entry fees for OFSAA are due at CWOSSA and are $8 per event and $25 per relay team.


EVENTS

All regular events will be contested, including the following: Jr. Girls Pole Vault, Open Girls 1500m Steeplechase. (See schedules on this site).

Junior Boys Throws - Shot, Discus & Javelin will use Mgt Boys weights.

SCORING

a)  Team scoring and Individual scoring: 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1

b)  Relays will count towards team scoring, but not individual points.

c)  Open boys 2000m Steeplechase and Open girls steeplechase will count towards combined school scores and towards individual points.

d)  Open 4x400m relays count towards overall school score only.

AWARDS

Trophies/Plaques for annual presentation for the following:

i.  each age class champions (e.g. Midget Girls Team)

ii.  to the overall boys and girls champions

iii.  to the overall champion school.

A.  The per-capita championship award, the Eleanor Currie Award, sponsored by the Bruce County Schools. School population will be the numbers as determined by the Bluewater Board and Bruce-Grey Separate School Board.

B.  Bluewater Medallions will be awarded to individual age class champions (e.g. Midget Girls Champion).

C.  Ribbons will be awarded to the top 6 competitors in each event. The chief judge at the event will award ribbons for field events. Ribbons for track evens may be picked up below the announcers stand once results have been posted.

Schools with team trophies from last year are asked to bring them to the announcer’s booth.

(Schools please check your trophy cases and bring them with you!)

SEEDING

a)  Runners are placed in heats or sections on the basis of seeds (best times), submitted with the entry, so that the best runners will meet in the final. Competitors entered with no seed times will be considered to be the slowest in the race.

b)  For races with heats advancing to a final, the entrants will be sorted from the fastest to the slowest on the basis of their seed times. The fastest runners are placed in different heats (e.g. #1 in heat 1, #2 in heat 2, #3 in heat 3, etc.). This procedure will be used in the 100m, 200m, and sprint hurdles. Once thus seeded, the lane assignments for the heats will be assigned at random, and the heats run in random order.

c)  For the 400m and relays, as only 6 runners or teams can be accommodated in one race, the race will be run in sections with the slower runners and teams being in the first or second sections and the fastest 6 runners in the final or third section. For the relays, there will be three sections of 3, 4, & 6 teams each.

d)  Lanes for the 400m, relays and the sprint finals will be assigned in a spearhead fashion. This places the fastest seed times to the center lanes, the slowest seed times to the inside and outside lanes.

e)  For the 800m all runners will run in one race from a box start. (If there are more than 15 runners there will be two sections). Runners will be assigned to the boxes (Box 1 - lanes 1 & 2, Box 2 - lanes 3 & 4, Box 3 - lanes 5 & 6, so that the faster runners are not together. Runners must stay in their boxes until they reach the marked cut-in spot at the beginning of the back straight.

f)  For the 1500m and longer races, all runners will start from a curved line. The starting positions of the line will be drawn at random.

g)  Please be honest with your seed times - do not submit fictitious times. If no times are available from this year, please submit last year's best times as an indication of ability.

h)  To speed up the meet as much as possible, the 3000's, 1500's, & 800's may be combined (e.g. mgt, jr, sr girls) - but this will depend on numbers of entries.

QUALIFYING FOR FINALS

Track Events - From heats to finals (no semi-finals):

a)  If 2 heats, the first 2 in each heat and the next 2 fastest will advance to the final.

b)  If 3 heats, the first 1 in each heat and the next 3 fastest will advance to the final.

c)  If 4 or more heats then we will move to a semi-final, with the first place in the heat and the next fastest times advancing to fill the semi-final. For 4 heats the 1st place plus the next 8 fastest times advancing.

d)  In the event that there is a tie for an advancing position, then the athlete with the better place of finish in his/her heat advances.

e)  In the event that those tying (above), have the identical place of finish, then the decision will be made by the track referee and may include a run-off.

QUALIFYING FOR FIELD EVENT FINALS

a)  The order for competition will be random.

b)  Competitors in throws and horizontal jumps will receive 3 trials. The top 8 after the third round will receive 3 additional trials given in reverse order (i.e. 8th, 7th, 6th ...2nd, 1st last). Ties for 8th place after 3 trials will be broken by 2nd best trial, etc.

c)  Competitors in vertical jumps may begin at any height. Three consecutive failures will end an individual's competition.

STARTS

a)  The 100m, 200m, and 400m, the 4x100m relay and all hurdle races will be run in lanes.

b)  A BOX start will be used for the 800m race.

c)  Curved starting lines will be used for the 1500m, 2000mSC, and 3000m races.

d)  4 x 400m relay. The first runners must stay in their lanes all the way around the track. The second runners must stay in their lanes until they reach the cones marking the beginning of the back straight when they may cut in to the inside lane.

e)  300m hurdles. The start will be in lanes near the 1500m start line.

f)  The finish line is common for all races.

CONFLICTS

a)  If a competitor is entered in both a track and field event, or in more than one field event taking place simultaneously, the chief judge may allow the competitor to take his/her trials in an order different from that decided upon prior to the start of competition.

b)  In a field event, no competitor is allowed to have more than one trial recorded in any one round of the competition.

c)  In pole vault and high jump, any trial(s) so missed in any round will be recorded as a pass (i.e. did not jump). If the bar has been raised, then it is not lowered for the returning athlete.

d)  If a competitor is absent for a round and has not returned prior to the beginning of the next round he/she may receive only his/her attempt in the round of competition in progress at the time of return.

EQUIPMENT

a)  Throwing implements will not be provided.

b)  Throwing implements must be approved by the event chief . Implements so approved may be used by all competitors in the competition.

c)  Pole vaulters must supply their own poles. A competitor may use another vaulter's pole only with the pole owner's permission.

d)  Only those relay batons supplied at the start of the relay may be used and must be returned to the official at the finish line by the last athlete of the relay team.


STARTING HEIGHTS (VERTICAL JUMPS)

The following are a guide for the event chief:

(increments may be decreased at the discretion of the chief when 6 or fewer competitors remain in the competition.)

POLE VAULT START HEIGHTS INCREMENTS

all events (at the discretion of the chief judge) 10 cm

(increments may be decreased at the discretion of the chief when 4 or fewer competitors remain in the competition. )

TIME FOR FIELD EVENTS

Competitors have 1 and 1/2 minutes to make an attempt in the pole vault, and 1 minute in the other field events. The judge will give a warning and a repeated infraction may result in a disqualification by the Field Referee.

GENERAL

a)  6 lane all-weather very hard 400m track. Maximum spike length 6 mm.

b)  High jump/long jump/triple jump/pole vault will be from all-weather runways. maximum spike length 6 mm.

c)  Discus and shot put from concrete circles. (NB - the discus will be held at “the flats” west of the Davidson Centre (towards town & the lake), in the valley between KDSS High School and the Davidson Centre.)

d)  The javelin will be held on the infield from grass. Spikes up to 15mm or football/soccer/baseball shoes may be worn.

e)  PARKING. There is ample parking near the track for cars and busses.

f)  SMOKING. This is a school sponsored activity - no smoking allowed.

g)  CHANGE FACILITIES. Washroom facilities are available. Very limited change room facilities - come ready to compete.

h)  VALUABLES. The organizers and the Davidson Centre will not be responsible for theft of valuables.

FOOD A food concession will be open in the Davidson Centre during the meet.


RULES

a)  Order of rule interpretation: 1) rules in this package, 2) CWOSSA rules, 3) OFSAA rules, 4) IAAF rules.

b)  False Start Rule - is now as in IAAF rule book - (Rule 162 - The Start - 7 - "Any athlete making a false start shall be warned. Except in Combined Events, only one false start per race shall be allowed without the disqualification of the athlete(s) making the false start. Any athlete(s) making further false starts in the race shall be disqualified from the race."
