Florida Community College Activities Association Hall-Of-Fame

Purpose and Criteria

The Florida Community College Activities Association, Incorporated (FCCAA) is a statewide nonprofit corporation regulating, coordinating, and promoting intercollegiate activities in: Athletics, Brain Bowl, Forensics, Music, Student Government, Student Publications, and Theatre.

Hall-of-Fame nominees shall include individuals who have raised the level of awareness in community college athletics and academics through their distinguished achievement and excellence in one or more community college athletic or academic programs sponsored by the Association; or through their contributions to community college athletics or academics in other fields of work. These individuals may include student athlete/participants, advisors/coaches/directors, administrators, contest officials, media personnel, sports medicine personnel, athletic trainers, or distinguished volunteers. Nominees may be retired from their field, or still active. Nominees must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and moral character.

The categories of student athlete/participant, coach, administrator, contest official, and contributor are included on the nomination form for expediency in understanding the primary area in which an individual is to be considered for his/her achievements in community college athletics/academics. These groupings are for screening purposes only and to assist those in making the nominations in understanding the type of information required. Once nominees are inducted, they are not categorized, but all are recognized as members of the FCCAA Hall-of-Fame.

§  Student athletes/participants are former student participants who are being nominated for their achievements in community college athletics/academics. To be eligible for nomination, such individuals must have graduated from a Florida junior/community college 10 or more years ago. Student athlete/participants will be considered primarily on their achievements as a community college student athlete/participant. Character during and after their community college years will be a major consideration.

§  Advisors/Coaches/Directors will be considered primarily for their achievements in coaching athletics/academic teams or advising/directing academic organizations. The nominee’s character both in the community college and other levels also will receive primary consideration. To be eligible for nomination as an advisor/coach/director, the individual must have served as a community college advisor/coach/director for a minimum of 10 years.

§  Administrators will be considered primarily on the merits of his/her service as a community college administrator or as an administrator in the community college system. The nominee’s character also will receive consideration. To be eligible for nomination as an administrator, the individual must have served as a community college administrator or as an administrator in the community college system for a minimum of 10 years.

§  Contest officials will be considered primarily on the merits of his/her service as a community college athletic/academic contest official. The nominee’s character also will receive consideration. To be eligible for nomination as a contest official, the individual must have served as a community college contest official for a minimum of 10 years.

§  Contributors are those individuals who have made contributions to community college athletics/academics in some capacity other than those previously mentioned, including such areas as media and sports medicine. Nominee will be considered primarily on the merits of his/her contributions to community college athletics/activities. The nominee’s character also will receive consideration.

All nominees will be judged on their significant and/or long-term contributions to community college system. While many have served their schools or areas over a long and distinguished career, their accomplishments must have been worthy of statewide recognition for them to be considered. Longevity, without meaningful statewide impact, does not constitute appropriate credentials for Hall-of-Fame consideration. The Hall-of-Fame Selection Committee may consider a nominee’s total record of contribution to community college athletics/academics in determining eligibility for candidacy and not just his/her record of service in the category (in which the nomination is made.) The Selection Committee also may waive the minimum years of service requirement when exceptional circumstances such as injury, illness or death have prevented an otherwise worthy candidate from meeting the requirement.
