JOB DESCRIPTION
POST: Shelter Manager
SALARY:£24,000 per annum
HOURS: 37.5
CONTRACT LENGTH: September 2017– May 2018
LINE MANAGER: Centre Manager
Principle Duties:
- To be responsible for and ensure the delivery of 2 winter shelters during the 2017-2018 season.
- To be accountable for health and safety within the winter shelter project and promote safe operating practices.
- To wrap up the project once completed, organise an end of shelter event and be part of the evaluation.
- To complete an annual survey with staff, and collect feedback.
- To facilitate recruitment of staff.
- To manage the Case Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, Resource Coordinator and Team Leaders and provide supervision once every four weeks.
- To complete staff rota’s and ensure adequate cover.
- To make decisions on complex referrals, manage risk in relation to clients and manage exclusions from the project.
- To ensure that the computer database is adopted and appropriate technological support is available.
- To represent the agency at appropriate meeting including the rough sleepers case conference/winter plan meetings, and various meetings with partner agencies.
- To work closely with regulatory bodies such as the Fire Service and the Food Standards Agency, build positive relationships that promote health and safety.
- To chair monthly staff meetings and offer opportunities for feedback and development.
- To attend the shelter 5 nights a week, including some weekends and work across both shelters.
- To liaise with premises both before, during and after the shelter.
- To ensure spending is within budget and ensure high standard of financial record keeping are maintained.
- To deal with issues, concerns and complaints as and when they arise.
- To ensure high standards of health and safety practices and procedures are adopted in the Winter Shelter, including risk assessments, fire safety procedures and the reporting of incidents and accidents.
- To ensure the project is opened up and closed down smoothly and appropriately.
- To organise an End of Season event.
- To report regularly to the Shelter Steering Group
General Duties:
- To attend staff meetings and supervision
- To handle Petty Cash.
- To represent and promote the work of Emmanuel Houseexternally
- To inform a member of the management team immediately of any serious incident or accident.
- To be committed to the development of the best possible practice at Emmanuel House and encourage social inclusion.
- To undertake training as directed and be committed to own professional development.
- To adhere to the policies and procedures of Emmanuel House
- To be available to work evenings and weekends
- To help with incidental tasks associated with the day to day operation of Emmanuel House and the Nottingham Winter Shelter

Working Requirement
Moving between shelters and the support centre quickly and regularly. / E

Full driving licence, a 4 wheeled vehicle for work use, appropriate insurance for business use and a valid driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points. / D
