  • Climate Change : Implementation of policies in White Paper : Responses of relevant Departments to Climate Change; and International negotiations in UNFCCC processes
  • MDGs for DEA and DWA and entities ;
  • Diagnostic Review of the NPC for DWA and DEA and entities;
  • SONA as it relates to DWA and DEA and entities ;
  • Job creation strategies for DWA, DEA and entities ;

6. REVIEW: Review of all White Papers and strategy documents in the Departments, including National Sustainable Development Strategy (DEA) ; National Waste Management Strategy (DEA) and National Oceans Strategy (DEA
7.REVIEW : Review of all National Norms and Standards set by the Departments
8.REVIEW: Review of the National Water Resources Strategy (NWRS 2nd edition) (August/September 2011)
9.REVIEW: Review of all legislation and regulations of the Departments, including amendment of Chapter 4 of National Water Act dealing with compulsory re-licensing (and adoption of regulations for irrigation)
10.PUBLIC HEARINGS: Public hearings on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) : – Difficulties being experienced with EIA and achieving a balanced EIA regime
11. PUBLIC HEARINGS: Public hearings to explore possible solutions for increased Rhino poaching
12. PUBLIC HEARINGS: Public hearings relating to all aspects of the “Working For” projects, including costs, performance, and present scope and possible future expanded scope of such projects.
13.PUBLIC HEARINGS: Public hearings on all issues relating to the implementation of waste / sanitation policy and legislation/regulations, including request to Treasury for 5.4 Billion Budget for dealing with waste solutions.
14. PUBLIC HEARINGS: Public hearings on all issues relating to enforcement/compliance of and within DEA, including Environmental Compliance Report; and DWA.
15.Review and strengthening of financial management systems of DWA and WTE, including the appointment of the two CFOs, review rules and responsibilities of Audit Committee and Internal Audit, clarify line of control of the CFO and to put in place proper and appropriate financial management system
16. Optimum institutional arrangements for DWA licensing regime, including the establishment of single unit and amendment of the present legislative regime
17. Optimum institutional arrangement for the annual establishment of the water tariff increases , i.e. Raw, Bulk and Retail ;
Feasibility , desirability and appropriateness of the establishment of the independent regulator for the water sector
18. Optimum institutional arrangements for DWA infrastructure spend ; Centralised water infrastructure plans with budgets; (Infrastructure Indaba)
19. Overview of all data and statistics captured by the Departments and Entities ; Establishment of the national database of all environmental and water data: Examples: Biodiversity Advisor / SAWS database
