Sandra,

I will send you a copy of the concentration, but yes, this is a CONCENTRATION is the MA program in the Department of English. It contains no new courses and is intended for those students intending to obtain an MA in English.

Kevin & George - Thanks for respective notes...and so quickly!

Jan - Thanks for getting back with us so quickly as well. Could you send a brief blurb on the proposed concentration...or confirm my understanding of your email that this concentration is for students a graduate degree in the Department of English?

Thanks! Sandra

Sandra

I am so sorry. Given that fact that we have been teaching English as a second language courses in our department for a number of years with our Linguistics courses, I was totally remiss in not notifying you.

We recently decided to make the move to concentrations from our strictly general MA. But the particular concentration is essentially the same series of courses that the department has offered for many years, and many students have graduated with this emphasis even though they were not formally recognized as a concentration.

Again, I apologize for the oversight and welcome any response you may have.

Thanks

jan

Dr. Warren:

I am forwarding your query to Dr. George Kasperek (GCC Chair), and Dr. Jan Tovey (GCC Member, and ENGL faculty member that submitted the proposal), as the specifics of this matter fall under their purview, insofar as responding to your unit’s concerns. You should receive a response in relatively short order.

As far as providing further documentation, all of the documents that were provided by the Department of English in relation to this proposal have been posted to the agenda. In the interests of transparency in the curricular approval process, all documentation submitted by a unit are posted for review by all interested parties (primarily owing to situations such as this).

Feel free to contact me if I can be of further assistance.

Kevin - Thanks again for all you do on behalf of faculty and students related to curriculum development.

I have a question regarding the March 19 GCC agenda. Could you provide information on the proposed TESOL concentration? In checking with colleagues in the College of Education who are working on English Language Learner curriculum development (with faculty from the English Department), it doesn't appear anyone has been contacted re this proposal. In keeping with the spirit and requirement of communicating with others who are engaged in similar work, it seems the College of Education should have been contacted.

Any information you can share will be appreciated.

Thanks – Sandra
