RESOLUTION 2016-616

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND THANKING BETH MCCAGUE FOR HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS THE INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE POLICE AND FIRE PENSION FUND; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

WHEREAS, Beth McCague earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Florida and holds an MBA from Jacksonville University; and

WHEREAS, Ms. McCague spent more than 30 years in the banking industry in a variety of management capacities with Atlantic Bank, First Union, Wachovia, Seaside National Bank and most recently as a member of the board of Ameris Bancorp in addition to operating a mediation service; and

WHEREAS, in December 2015 Beth McCague, always known as a woman up for a challenge and ready to tackle difficult but important jobs, undertook a vital task for the Jacksonville community when she agreed to become the Interim Executive Director of the Police and Fire Pension Fund at a time when the pension plan was under tremendous scrutiny and had been widely criticized in the media and by community leaders; and

WHEREAS, using her unique skill set of business acumen tempered with the ability to get people to overcome conflict and work together to realize and achieve common goals, Beth McCague rose to the challenge and performed splendidly as the interim director, establishing a solid working relationship with the City Council and City Administration and restoring public confidence in the operations of the Fund; and

WHEREAS, as Ms. McCague relinquishes her position with the Fund and helps its talented new director to learn the ropes and prepare to the lead the Police and Fire Pension Fund into the future, it is a fitting time to express the community’s debt of gratitude for her service; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Jacksonville:

Section 1. The City of Jacksonville hereby commends and thanks Beth McCague for her outstanding service as Interim Executive Director of the Police and Fire Pension Fund, and expresses its appreciation for her hard work and considerable skill exercised on behalf of the citizens and the City government. Her invaluable contributions are gratefully acknowledged.

Section 2. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon signature by the Mayor or upon becoming effective without the Mayor's signature.
