Eugene Alfred

Born November 6, 1970, in Mayo, Yukon, of Northern Tutchone and Tlingit ancestry, Eugene belongs to the Crow Clan of Selkirk First Nation, located in Pelly Crossing, Yukon.

Studying under such renowned artists as Dempsey Bob (Tlingit/Tahltan) and Ken Mowatt (Gitxsan), Eugene has established himself as a respected carver. His unique style and expertise has provided him with the opportunity to not only produce exquisite collectable artwork but also to become an instructor and pass on his artistry to the younger generations.

Currently, he works and resides in Pelly Crossing, Yukon.

  • 1986: course on Tlingit carving with Tlingit/Tahltan carver, Dempsey Bob
  • 1991-1995 Kitanmaax School of Northwest Coast Indian Art, Hazelton, BC
  • 1995: marketing course with Larry Garfinkel, Stan Bevan and Ken McNeil, Ksan Museum, Hazelton, BC
  • 1997: sculpture course with Dempsey Bob, Keyano College, Fort McMurray, AB
  • 2004: silk screen course with Andy MacDougal, Whitehorse, YT

Teaching Positions:

  • 1997-1998: taught 1st year carving at Kitanmaax School of Northwest Coast Indian Art, Hazelton, BC
  • 1999: taught a 2 week carving and tool making course with Vernon Asp, a Tahltan Carver, and Stan Bevan, a Tlingit carver, at the McBride Museum. The course extended into a 3 week carving symposium at the McBride Museum, Whitehorse, YT
  • 2002: taught a six week carving and tool making course to youth. Blue Feather Youth Center, Whitehorse, YT
  • 2004: taught a 5 week carving and tool making course at Yukon College, Pelly Crossing, YT
  • 2004: taught a 2 week carving course at Eliza Van Bibber School, Pelly Crossing, YT
  • 2005: taught a carving course at Klondike Institute of Arts (KIAC), Dawson City, YT
  • 2006: taught a 5 week course at the Whitehorse Correctional Center, Whitehorse, YT
  • 2006: taught a 2nd, 3 week course, at the Whitehorse Correctional Center, Whitehorse, YT
  • 2006: taught a carving course at Klondike Institute of Arts (KIAC), Dawson City, YT
