Little things, big changes

"A story of innocence, in a world of ignorance" - The boy in the striped pajamas. A long time ago, when I was eight years old I was sitting in my room watching a TV show called " Sponge Bob " that was one of my favorites tv shows at that time, I remember that I was eating something ... It was sweet, a little bit moist, soft, crunchy, dark like a coffee, buttery, calorific, creamy, it was a great chocolate cake; my entire house smelled fantastic like those bakeries story, I was enjoying my cake when I heard my dad voice and I run into him as always.

He said " I have a great news" .

And as an impatient girl I said " WHAAATTTTTTT IS IT? Are we going to have a pet? " .

He said " No, we are going to Germany tomorrow night" .

I was so excited about it, I wrote a letter to my uncles and cousins, I did my package, and I couldn't sleep at night, and after less that 24 hours I was at the airport waiting for my flight and I saw a post about " The boy in the striped pajamas" I had never heard of it before that day, I thought it was a horror movie because the picture that I saw on the post it wasn't even close to the romantic movie.

Finally we arrived to Germany, I was so happy, nervous, fearful, anxious because I would see my family. After being 3 days in Berlin I fought with my cousin.

I said " I would like you to die " .

He and pushed me onto the grass, my uncle Gerard was so mad at us.

He said " you have to respect each other"

We said " No! " but after a few minutes we said "I'm sorry" to each other

On the other hand we were having a good time together, we went to a lot of places, and the most important thing is that we ate a lot of sausage rolls.

When we arrived at my uncle's house.

He said something like " Laura, Gerardo come here" " I want you to see this movie " .

And as a good guys we did what he told us, when I saw the cover page of the movie I was shocked I remembered that I had seen that picture at the airport, I didn't know what to expect when starting the film so it all came as a complete surprise for me because if you don't remember I thought that it was a horror movie I was so scared, my heart was beating a mile a minute, I almost cried, I had a goosebumps.

When the movie started, I was a little confused because I didn't understand anything.

I asked myself a lot of questions like:

Why it was such an old movie? .

Why they are so bad to other people? .

Why they kill them?.

Why everyone went to those very ugly houses? .

Why everyone was so scared? .

But I just continued watching. After almost two hours the movie ended and everything was normal as always, my uncle was so happy because we watched the movie and he thought that the movie changed our mind.

After the movie we went to the zoo, my father was wearing a red shirt, my mom a white shirt and both with jeans, and I was wearing a black shirt and shorts, we first visited the birds’ section. They were in a really big cage that looked a little bit scary because it was gray as the prison that I saw in a movie. However we saw a lot of birds with many different colors like blue, gray, yellow, red , pink ,purple ,white ,and green , which was a colourful treat to our eyes. This section was echoing all over with the chirping of the birds . Here we saw the lovely kingfishers and cranes of different kinds. The most attractive birds were the pelicans because they were so big and their beaks were so weird because of their shape. Next, we went to the big and huge animals section. It was amazing to see the tigers, cheetahs, leopards, rhinoceros, elephants, giraffes and more. The felines, like the tiger, cheetah, and the lion, were huge and beautiful to look at. The king of the jungle, the lion, was the most awesome in his yield. His loud roar echoed up to the skie. What I liked most was his color, and his huge mane that was incredible. I could watch him for hours. The best attraction, though, were the monkeys, we saw many different kinds like baboons, chimpanzees etc. I kept on watching them for a long time. Visit the zoo made me think of the movie because all the animals were imprisoned for no reason just like the jews.

After that, we returned to the house of my uncle while back I thought that been there was fun but still I can not get you out of my head that movie, that movie that changed my life.

Unfortunately our trip was over, and we had to go back to Venezuela, we did our package, we said goodbye to my family and then we went to the airport and guess what? I kept thinking about the movie... After a day when we arrived to Venezuela I asked my aunts if they had seen that movie but I did not remember the name so I tried to explain it but I think that my explanation was not very good because nobody knew about that movie. After 1 or 2 months I forgot about it and I continued my life, but one day when I was 13 years-old I went to my best friend house and I remember when she asked me

" Laura if you are my bff, which is my favorite movie? " .

And I said " I don't know, Disney movies I guess so".

She said " No, it is the boy in the striped pajamas" .

I was like " REALLY? I KNOW THAT MOVIE" .

As the same time we said " let's go, we have to watch it" .

And as we a said it, we did it.

When the film was in the middle I started to think about to many things like my family, my friends, my life and how lucky I am but as the same time I thought that most of the time I didn't appreciate it, sometimes I think that the life hates me because I can't buy an Iphone7 or a pair of shoes, but while I complain about stupid stuff a lot of people said

" Tomorrow will be a better day " .

And they have not a drop of water to drink, many times we should think about everything that we have and not about everything that we do not, we should learn to be more grateful , and we should learn to appreciate the small things like be with you family because you don't know if someone is in one minute and the second is no longer.

When the movie done my bff and I went to Italian restaurant because we were hungry and I saw that everything was normal, her, my family, my city but the only one that was changed was me. The days went by and I started to apply what I had learned from the movie and until now I thanked that movie for making me react about things as important as learning to appreciate the people around you. They are often simple things that we forget but it is never too late to start again.
