Higher Education Links Scheme
The Higher Education Links Scheme provides students who have received a FETAC 2 certificate to apply for a place in a higher education institution. In total, there are approximately 2000 places available amongst all the participating higher education institutions. These places are allocated over approximately 250 courses.
Under the scheme the person submits their application to the Central Applications Office (CAO). The application should reach the CAO by February 1st. In July, FETAC results are issued to the CAO and the higher education institutions participating in the scheme. Points are awarded to each FETAC module and totalled for each applicant. Places are then offered in rank order of merit until the quota is completed for each course.

Currently, there are thirteen FETAC 2 certificate options on offer throughout County Clare. The table below lists each of these courses and the higher education institutions linked to them for the purposes of the links scheme.

Each of the institutions listed above have designated specific courses that are linked to FETAC certificates. For example, in the case of the Outdoor Recreation Certificate, Dundalk I.T. links this award to their National Diploma in Humanities, Community Sports Leadership whereas I.T. Sligo links this FETAC certificate to their National Diploma in Business Studies (Recreation and Leisure).
