Two-day Workshop on
Confocal Microscopy
Image Analysis
7 – 8 July 2009
Sponsored by
The purpose of the workshop
Confocal Scanning Laser Microscopyis a modern and powerful tool for 3D imaging and quantitative analysis of biological, medical, material and surface science samples with sub-micrometer resolution.Applicationof this technique however is based on an understanding of the principles of light microscopy, sample preparation and image analysis software. The aim of this course is to provide you with a better understanding of the entire process of 3D imaging and analysis and associated practical skills. This two-day course is targeted at users who have a basic understanding of the technique.
Key contributors
Dr. CarolaThoni. Carola has worked for Leica since 1989 and joined theAustralian team in 1995. She gained her PhD at Heidelberg University where she made considerable use of confocal microscopy for her projects. Carola is product manager for confocal microscopy for the Asia Pacific Region.
Dermot Allen.Dermot has beenLeica Microsystems Australia's business manager for microscopy for over 20 years. He hasextensive microscopy experience and a background in geology and photography.
To quote Dermot: “Microscopy is an art as well as a science and I am committed to see this art does not die! I know this workshop will be informative to all, no matter what your interests.”
