Job Purpose:
Manage the operations of nC2 including strategic direction, business planning, marketing and work flow.
To liaise, negotiate and communicate with clients on a confidential basis and to bring income to the Unit.
To work independently and execute tribology contract research and consultancy
Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities
1. Win, develop, and manage (income generation) significant/diverse commercial business by acting as lead consultant for nC2 on tribology consultancy, applied research, testing and experimental projects for clients, customers, and stakeholders external to the University: identify schemes of work, negotiate and manage budgets, and set and adhere to project timescales.
2. Take the lead role in commercial/enterprise management of nC2: Workflow management of bid, contract negotiations with client, project execution, and closing for all nC2 projects.
3. Responsible for industrial consortia bids such as EU H2020 and TSB
4. Lead the development of innovative approaches to enterprise and new activities such as CPD courses.
5. Sit on the nC2 Management Team to include Strategic and Business Planning with Chief Scientific Officer and Director.
6. Ownership and delivery of Business and Marketing Plans including conferences, trade shows and exhibitions ie represent nC2 externally in the subject community.
7. Line Manage and develop the Experimental Expert including bid and report review.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
PhD or equivalent qualifications and experience in tribology and a demonstrated strong analytical background
Proven understanding of industry requirements and working practices
Demonstrable expertise in experimental methods or gathering data
Substantial experience of negotiating and winning consultancy projects in a range of technical areas
CEng and Membership
Demonstrable project management
