Dear [Insert First Name],

As a student of Australian Catholic University your enrolment is governed by the University’s Academic Regulations. Academic Regulation 6.2.1.2 “Requirement to show cause why enrolment should not be terminated” states that -

  1. failed 50% or more of the credit points taken over the last two standard study periods in which the student was actively enrolled; or
  2. failed any professional experience or community engagement unit.”

Our records indicate that your performance does not satisfy the academic requirements established by the University [Insert reason that student must show cause].

[Note: Enclosing a transcript is optional, students have access to their results on Student Connect. If you enclose a transcript insert the following text (See enclosed copy of transcript.)].

Accordingly, you are required to show cause in writing within 20 working days from the date of this letter why your enrolment should not be terminated effective the end of [Insert Semester]. As per Academic Regulation 6.2.1.4 “Consideration of show cause submission”, you will be advised of the decision within 20 working days of you lodging your submission.

[An explanation of what the student needs to provide to show cause may be included here if required.]

International students studying in Australia on a student visa

This letter is advice that you have been assessed as not achieving satisfactory course progress and you will be reported to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship(DIAC) on that basis at either the conclusion of the 20 working day period or the conclusion of the appeal process, should your appeal be unsuccessful.

Should you wish to lodge an appeal against the intention to report you to DIAC, you must submit this in writing to the Manager, International Office, PO Box 968 North Sydney, NSW 2059

In accordance with the ESOS Act 2000, DIAC may proceed to cancel the visa of international students who are excluded and reported for unsatisfactory course progress. A student who has a visa cancelled is likely to have a three-year exclusion period imposed and may be unable to study in Australia for three years. You are strongly encouraged to contact the International Student Adviser for advice.

If you wish to seek further information or advice please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,
