Position: Youth Programs Project Manager

Location: Vancouver, Washington

Reports to: Construction Manager

Employment Terms: Full-time

Summary: Manages all aspects of Habitat’s youth construction programs including YouthBuild and Geometry in Construction. Teaches, coaches and leads a diverse group of enthusiastic students who possess the broadest possible range of skill levels, providing excellent experiences.

Responsibilities:

Education and Training

·  Teach the national construction certification curriculum to trainees using prescribed materials.

·  Ensure quality instruction of construction skills including demolition, rough framing, roofing, drywall, finish carpentry, sheet metal, electrical, plumbing, painting, and masonry.

·  Support the academic and leadership goals of the program by incorporating both into building site activities whenever possible.

·  Provide supervision in the academic and/or leadership components of the program when needed.

·  Initiate and schedule OSHA, first aid, and CPR training for all participants.

Construction Management

·  Manage construction plans and schedules and lead construction for on-time, on-budget, high-quality projects in accordance with affiliate plans

·  Provide oversight of the on-site construction training by: ensuring that trainees get consistent and adequate skills training; helping to set standards for appropriate behavior and ways to handle problems on the construction site; and ensuring work-site safety, learning of safety procedures, and proper construction techniques.

·  Working in partnership with Geometry in Construction teachers and other partners, provide timely delivery of materials, schedule sub-contractors and inspectors, and ensure quality of work meets applicable codes and regulations.

·  Implement and accurately maintain a system to track student’s progress and assess their skills and abilities.

·  Maintain accurate inventory of all tools, supplies, and equipment.

·  Attend all staff meetings and coordinate individual plans with other YouthBuild and Habitat staff.

·  Serve as a mentor to YouthBuild trainees each program cycle.

·  Keep YouthBuild Director informed of progress and challenges.

Position Requirements:

·  Supervisory experience in construction related activities

·  Minimum of four years construction experience and or journeyman card (other construction and/or teaching experience may be used in lieu of journey level certification).

·  Skilled at reading and interpreting instructions, diagrams, sketches, and blueprints.

·  Proven ability to present and provide instruction in areas related to remodeling and new construction.

·  Ability to relate to, lead, and instruct populations of young adults ages 16 - 24 who have become disconnected from traditional education and career preparation.

·  Passion for working with young people of diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds to reorient their lives, develop leadership skills, and make a difference in their community.

·  Support and endorse the Habitat for Humanity mission

·  Ability to manage multiple variables in a fast-paced environment while remaining flexible, calm and good-natured

·  Knowledge of MS Office including Excel; prefer knowledge of MS Project

·  Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed. Access to a car is required to fill some of the duties of this position.

·  Ability to work occasional evenings and Sundays. (General work schedule is 8:00-4:00, Tuesday through Saturday.)

·  Physically able to work on outdoor construction site in all kinds of weather, regularly lift 50 lbs., stand, reach, climb ladders, balance, see and hear.

Salary and benefits:

Salary range, $35,000 to $40,000, dependent on experience and skills. Benefits include paid medical and dental insurance, paid holidays, two weeks’ vacation, and sick-time.
