Links Fiji Guidelines for Volunteers
Congratulations and thank you for your decision to volunteer with Links Fiji. We are a small organisation, privately funded in Australia and Fiji.
Our key focus areas are on
- Pap smears and education on importance of regular smears
- Teaching women how to conduct breast exams
- Testing for diabetes and high blood pressure for men and women
- Teaching healthy lifestyle choices
- Teaching safe sex
If you are a non medical volunteer our expectation are:
- You will pay for your own air fares to Fiji
- We will pay for two meals – breakfast and lunch, breakfast will be a set meal and lunch will be what we have organised for the day.
- Where accommodation is provided as part of our sponsorship you will share a room with a nominated volunteer for free. However if we are paying for accommodation you will be expected to pay for 50% of the cost.
- You will be responsible for paying for any alcohol consumed; dinners and extra activities you may choose to participate in at resorts.
- We will pay for the cost of the dry-cleaning of the medical uniform which a shirt we provide.
- You may be expected to attend dinners and events hosted by our sponsors
If you are a medical volunteer our expectations are:
- Links Fiji will pay for your return airfare to Fiji, if you wish to extend your trip or fly to another destination we will provide you funds or make a booking for you with the cheapest fare available to us at the time.
- We will pay for all accomadation costs during your time with us
- We will pay for two meals – breakfast and lunch, breakfast will be a set meal and lunch will be what we have organised for the day.
- You will be required to share a room with another volunteer.
- We will pay for dry-cleaning the uniforms.
- You will be responsible for paying for any alcohol consumed; dinners and extra activities you may choose to participate in at resorts.
- All data collected during the visit belongs to Links Fiji we will however share this with the medical practitioner
- The team leader will make final decision on the day on any necessary changes, patient follow up and referral.
- The team leader will make the final decision on whether the venue is suitable for our needs
- The team leader will make the final decision on whether general medicine or pap smears take priority in consultation with the medical practitioner
- Any books provided to Links Fiji by the Fiji Hospitals will remain the property of Links Fiji and not the medical practitioner.
- Feedback given to patients, doctors and any other relevant parties will be in consultation with the team leader
- It is expected that the medical practitioner at the end of each day updates the team leader on key issues, treatments, new cases etc so that Links Fiji records can be updated.
- You may be expected to attend dinners and events hosted by our sponsors
- The team leader will lead any meetings held with Fiji Authorities
- The team leader will communicate with Fiji Authorities on medical registration
- The team leader is responsible for all logistics
- The team leader will be responsible for all presentations and acknowledgements
- From time to time you will be expected to run training for local hospitals
- From time to time we will choose to use local nurses to work with us
