TROMBAY

NEW

World Environment day was celebrated on 5th June at Trombay. Mr S.D.Deshpande, VP(Operations) and Mr U.S.Bapat, Senior General Manager-Trombay planted trees on that occasion.

DIFFERENT

·  Mr. S. A. Rehman of EMD believes in true spirit of trust. Earlier, he was in the news for returning one expensive mobile phone to its owner. This time, he found an expensive wrist watch (Titan, golden color) near GTG generator. He took pain to hunt out its owner and return it after two days. His efforts are appreciated.

· 

BETTER

·  On 04.06.06 at 06:30 AM Mr Pawar reported burning smell emanating from I D Fan-6 B coupling. The fan was taken out and its coupling pads were replaced. Keen observation by Mr A S Pawar at the end of the shift is highly appreciable.

·  While coming to ‘A’ shift of 22/06/06 Mr. Chaugule reported hot spot in 22 switchyard. On inspection the hot spot was observed on South bus section GOD 3. The hot spot disappeared on opening CTTL bkr. (it was acting as N-S bus tie along with Tr. Bkr.). His observation from moving bus is highly appreciated.

JOJOBERA

World Environment Day

On the occasion of the World Environment day, Important New initiatives were launched in the division towards improving the Quality of the environment and water conservation, in line with the United Nations theme for this year’s ‘World Environment Day’:- “Deserts and Desertification -Don’t Desert Drylands .”

As a major initiative towards ‘Conservation of the scarce resource “Water” the Jojobera Division inaugurated Roof Water Harvesting System..

In another initiative to Conserve and Re- use water a: “Storm Water Irrigation Scheme” was inaugurated.

Both the Schemes were inaugurated by Mr. Sharad Baijal, Dy. General Manager. Both the initiatives were started by the Head of the Environment Department Mr. P S Bhattacharjee who was actively supported in the execution of the schemes by the “Suraksha, Swasthya Evam Paryavaran Samity” of Jojobera.

·  PH # 6 Project – Geo technical investigation (soil testing) was carried out by TCE, GTE and IISc.

·  Unit # 5 – feasibility study carried out by TCE.

·  CHP has become richer in logistics. The department added a revamped loco and a new dozer. Addition of these facilities will provide higher redundancy coal handling operation.

DIFFERENT

·  In Wagon Tippler # 2, Logic of clamping and de-clamping has been modified. Earlier logic was governed through timer only and now proximity switches have also been provided for sensing the cradle position. This will enhance reliability of the system during the tippling cycle and unfortunate incidents like derailment of wagon while tippling will be avoided & will thus lead to safer operations

·  In Air compressor 2 C under step – 2 Jishu Hozen Activity demister has been modified. This has helped in arresting loss of lubricating oil and making the area clean and safe. The job was carried out by ‘Prayas’ TPM circle.

BETTER

·  Auxiliary cooling water supplies to Compressors have been provided redundancy. Earlier 3 compressors were connected to either Unit #2 or Unit # 3 ACW system, now individual selection for compressors are possible. This will enhance reliability of compressors during unplanned outage of any unit.

·  Bottom ash evacuation system of all 4 units has been interconnected. This has helped in improving reliability of the system and reduction number of personnel required for operation of BA system. The job was completed under TPCL/JSR/QIP/06-07/20.

·  Modification carried out in drinking water preparation circuit in DM plant to improve the water quality. Earlier service water was directly passed through activated carbon filter (ACF). Now service water is passed through Pressure sand filter (PSF) and then through activated carbon. This will reduce NTU in water at ACF inlet from 10 to 2 and also increase backwash cycle of ACF from once a day to once in 3 days.

Visit of Reporters from Bangladesh:

·  Mr. Munirul Huq , Treasurer Bangladesh Olympic Association and Vice president Bangladesh Volley Ball Federation Accompanied by two other Journalists visited our Plant on the 15th of June .

·  A team of 4 Journalists led by the Editor of the Daily Inquilab & Chairman of Inquilab Television A M M Bahauddin visited Tata power plant on the 18th of June

·  A team of 12 Journalists and TV Crew led by Mullah AMZAD Hossain, Chairman Forum for energy reporters a Bangladesh visited us on the 27th of June. All the reporters were from the energy Beat of various TV Channels and news papers of Bangladesh. They were very impressed by the pollution free environment of the Coal Based Thermal Power Plant.

·  Solar street lights and solar lanterns were distributed to Little Flower School, Gyandeep Vidyalaya and Govindpur Police Station.

Ø  Salsette Kolshet Saki celebrated World Environment Day in a unique way on 5th June 2006 – An Environment rally was organized to adjoining residential Colonies, Shopping Centers, Shopkeepers & Kokni Pada Villagers. With a message to “Save Power, Save Environment”, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Plastic & Save environment, Encourage Use of Cotton Carry Bags, Plant More trees, Save Trees & Save Environment. Employees visited Khevra Circle, near Godrej Eden Wood housing complex, and did token cleaning of dustbins and adjoining gutter which (blocked with plastic bags) overflows every year and is the cause of concerned for all the people of adjoining area. This was followed by tree plantation (SMRITI VRIKSH) drive where three saplings of Neem, Parijat and Almond trees were planted by a group of children from Kokni pada village, Hill Garden, Eden Wood. Mr. G P Kaushik, Mr. M P Shevde and Mr. Kapoor, a Sr. Citizen from Eden Wood, also planted one tree each. Congratulations to Mr. J P Pandya (Sr. Exec Engr – Kolshet) for taking lead in co-ordination of this initiative & creating an awareness of environment related issues and setting an example to others. Keep it Up.
Ø  Versova team has developed a local gate using scrap material like Plastic pipe, Motor and gear of old isolators and sock absorber from a junk shop etc. Appreciable effort of innovation and useful creation..

Ø  Transmission - Ceramic coating provided on pilot suspension and strain strings on gantry of 220 kV Trombay-Carnac Line No 5 to minimise corona effect and tripping due to corona, and salt deposition by cooling water coming out of sill well.

Ø  Vikhroli consumer BMC Lagoon- 22kV/440v consumer transformer testing carried out by Vikhroli Maint Dept / EQAG after tripping of the same for taking in service -as value added service to consumer.
Ø  Salsette - ''Business Excellence through Customer Care'' One Day Knowledge Sharing Session was organised at Salsette Conf. Room for YEL field staff, YEL billing staff and Tata Power Call Centre employees. M/s Bharat Nadkarni from TBEM Group, Usha Iyer, Rakesh Gupta from CRD, S Varghese, H D Thaker, J.S.Wadhwa, shared their knowledge and experience with the audience.
Ø  T & D - A two day training programme through St. John Ambulance Association (India) on First Aid was arranged at Dharavi R/S by Mr. H A Damle, Safety Officer. 30 employees had a very interesting and interacting session on First Aid, which was conducted by Dr. Kulkarni from St. John Ambulance Association (India)
Ø  Kolshet - After receiving training for Voltas breaker – its training effectiveness was seen on 1stJuly 2006 when one pole of 22 kV Pokhran 2 breaker (due to low SF6 pressure) was replaced within 30 minutes & breaker testing ( Hi-pot, Contact resistance, timing & pick up ) were completed with in next 45 minutes – this is perhaps a bench mark.
Ø  Salsette - Salsette division actively participated with EQAG dept. in establishing FOP network link extension up to Kalwa end.
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT
Ø  Kolshet - 33 kV Voltas breaker on job training about breaker pole replacement, mechanism details, contact travels, other difficulties faced. With the above activities advantage of Morning prayer, daily exercise, healthy breakfast (sprouted beans with salad, Idli Sambhar ), was also shared with 5 T & D engineers & 13 EMD staff members from various divisions
NEAR-MISS OCCURRENCES
Ø  Chembur - Timely observation of hot jumper in cable compartment connecting ‘B’ Phase Raychem termination of REL feeder # 2 cable to breaker bushing by one of the maintenance staff members alerted the operation engineer on duty who immediately arranged the outage of the feeder & averted a possible Raychem failure & subsequent fault.
Ø  Saki - On 4th June, 2006Due to alertness of the Mr. M. Kifayatullah, a major damage to the breaker was averted. When 22 kV Saki # 6 (back to back with PT # 1) line tripped due to crow fault on the H-frame structure, he observed that the 22 KV PT # indicating lamps were still glowing, even though the breaker had tripped. The breaker pole is being replaced.
Ø  Saki - During outage of 11 KV B.S I on 3rd June, at Hiranandani Distribution S/S, for routine maintenance, it was noticed that megger value of the Bus was low because 3 Nos. insulators were having low Insulation resistance, which were replaced. Thus, a likely bus fault was averted, because of following laid down maintenance practices.
Ø  Parel - ‘B’ phase CT with high Tan Delta on 110 KV PM1 line was replaced on 09.06.06. A probable occurrence due to failure of this CT has been averted.
Good vigilance & action during above four near miss occurrences to avert damage to equipment. Keep it up.

PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS
Ø  Commissioning of SCADA for Ambernath R/S, Vikhroli S/S & Chembur R/S - Site acceptance Test at Kalyan for Ambernath SCADA was carried out on 30/6/06. Commissioning activities at Chembur are nearing completion- pending SAT which is planned in 1st week of July-06
Ø  Borivli - Auto load restoration scheme for 22KV REL feeders -2, 3 and 4 has been commissioned at Borivli R/S. In the event of islanding, auto-reclosure scheme will come in service automatically. After islanding frequency excursions will be very high. REL feeders will close automatically. This scheme is valid for 1 minute after islanding. A Timer has been provided. This scheme will arrest rapid rise of frequency and will avert tripping of Trombay Unit-7 at 52.5 Hz.
Ø  Kolshet - Kolshet 440 V ACDB caught fire on 28.05.2006 at 14:00 Hrs. Important station aux. was resumed on the same day through one temporary panel at 20:30 Hours. Majority of the station 440 V aux. load was extended by 31.05.2006. Additional temporary panel was arranged from Carnac. 440 V Supply to this panel was extended from Station transformer no. 1 & Interconnection was established on 25.06.2006 thus establishing stand by supply for station auxiliaries.
Ø  Kolshet - On 11th June outage of power trans. 1 & 2 were availed one at a time for Bushing testing & device trails were completed between 09:20 hours & 12:45 hours.
Ø  Saki - Energy Balance of 32 out of 43 Transformer groups of Consumer s/s is within +/-2 %.
Ø  Salsette - 110 KV Kalyan-Kalwa-salsette line is taken in service into service at three locations for the first time.
Ø  Salsette - FOP link is extended to Kalwa and carrier acceleration is changed over to FOP.

Ø  Mr. Francis Lobo and Mr. Mr. V A Khan had participated in Medical Camp for police (Airport & Vile Parle police station) and Shanti Nagar slum organized by TPC on 25/06/06

2.  Nallah pumping schemes were taken into service from 29-06-06.

·  Four days workshop from 17/606 to 21/6/06 was held at Walwhan (Lonavla) regarding “Mahaseer Breeding of Conservation” and about 35 delegates from all over the country were participated in the same.
·  On 27/28 Jun-06, Mr. Ashok Sethi, GM (H&TRD) and Mr Kedar Prasad, DGM (H) delivered a presentation on Hydro Performance & Importance of R&M activities at Hydros , in programme conducted by TMTC for the Top executives of “ Uttaranchal Jal Vidyut Nigam “ at Dehradun.
·  Vocational Training Programs for the benefit of nearby villages are in progress.
·  Karalewadi school renovation work is in progress (90% complete) under CSR activity.
·  Medical Camp at Kusur held on 16.06.06.
·  200 Kg High yield paddy seeds were distributed to in all 10 farmers from Karalewadi, Tapkirwadi, Bhivpuri and Mandavana villages.

1.  All the 27 students from Tata Vidyalaya Bhira have cleared SSC exam. Following is the grade wise distribution. Ms. Aparna Gaikwad secured distinction with 77.7 % . ( Fist class:17 , Second class:9)
2.  Well baby clinic conducted at Khopoli on 02.06.06. No. of patients. = 9. ( Cum. for Year: 28 patients. )
3.  4 Medical camps conducted at Umberwadi, Golewadi, Khandshi , Newase on 1st, 3rd , 8th & 24th.. Total cases attended, 185. Cum. Year: 314 patients.
4.  Two days session on “ Understanding & Management of ALCOLISUM “ was conducted by Ms Bharti Desai at Khopoli. Total 26 participants from Khopoli and H/W Lonavla attended the same.
5. TRPH nallah diversion work completed. This will avoid accumulation of silt in TRPH
head pond.

CORPORATE SOURCING GROUP

CSG started the initiative of meeting the internal customer at their divisions i.e. at customers offices. A team from CSG visited the operating Divisions viz. TRD(salsate) and Trombay to understand the key requirements of the Divisions from CSG, as a Service Provider and to improve process as required like order placement ,delivery follow up etc. This is precursor to ISLA review meetings.
