Several provisions in CLIC help protect student privacy. Read theCLIC Privacy Provisions statement. Your district or school may require a signed consent form from parents or guardians. You can adapt the following sample letter to the needs of your district or school.
Dear Parent/Guardian:
In our classroom, we will be keeping a record of what children are learning in asoftware program called CLIC (Capturing Learning in the Classroom). CLIC is a web-based program that lets us
- Write learning stories that include photographs, videos, and audio clips of children in the classroom, usually in small groups
- Create summaries of what children have learned
- Build print or digital portfolios, including photographs, videos, and audio clips, for each student as a record of their learning
CLIC portfolios can be used in several ways. We can use them to monitor the progress of each child. We can share them with you by print or email, to offer insight into what your child is learning at school. We can share them with the children, so that they can celebrate their learning.
In many cases, we will capture learning stories while your child is working and playing in a group. If you agree, these photographs, videos, and audio clips of your child might be shared with parents of other children in the group. However, no other personal, confidential, or sensitive information about your child will be shared with other parents or guardians. CLIC portfolios are protected with security measures:
- Site access is password protected. Only teachers assigned to a class by the school account administrator can enter, and access,information for a student.
- Data is stored on servers within Canada and is subject to Canadian privacy legislation.
- CLIC uses the same strong encryption that is standard in government and industry to help protect student informationand to help ensure that it cannot be read by anyone not authorized to access the files, including server administrators.
