100 Day!
Thank you for those that donated a snack for 100 day next Thursday, February 2. We had a great turnout of students that participated in the 100 day collection. If you child would still like to participate, please help them fill their zip lock bag with 100 of the same item and send it in on Monday.
Journaling
Students are working very hard to be star writers! We sing our rendition of Frozen’s “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” song before journaling every morning. Have your child sing it to you at home!
Do you want to build a sentence?
Do you want to build a Sentence?
Here are some things you need to know…
Start with a capital, add spaces and
Punctuation too!
It used to be real hard to do,
But now it’s not,
Cuz I learned how to spell!!
(tongue clicks….)
Do you want to build a sentence?
It doesn’t have to be a long one…
Give it a try!
Compare and Contrast
We had fun talking about things that were the same and things that were different in Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Goldy Luck and the Three Panda’s. Goldy Luck is a girl that celebrates the Chinese New Year. The kids learned about some of the Chinese traditions Goldy Luck and her family share during the holiday. The story itself was also very similar to the classic tale that we all know and love. You will find your child’s Venn Diagram in their Friday folder.
Valentine’s Day
Whittier School will celebrate Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February 14th. A valentine must be brought for every student if you choose to bring Valentines. Look for the Valentine’s note and class list attached to the newsletter.
Math
We have been hard at work learning about 3D shapes (sphere, cube, cylinder, and cone). Students are making connections as we look at real life objects, sort, and sing about 3D shapes. We have been comparing 2D shapes and 3D shapes and noticed that 2D shapes are flat and 3D shapes are fat!
Homework:
· Fill your zip lock bag with your 100 Day collection!
· Practice counting to 100! You can start at 1 OR a random number and have your child count on!
· Give your child a “rollercoaster” word to STRETCH out! These are CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words that have a beginning, middle, and end. If you say net, have your child say segment the word /n/ /e/ /t/. They can say it or write it! Words with digraphs like /ch/, /sh/, /th/ can be a fun challenge!
· Start thinking about Valentine’s Day! (see attached note and class list)
Have a great weekend!
