Physical Education & Health Guidelines

BULLDOG PRIDE (PERSEVERANCE, RESPECT, INTEGRITY, DESCIPLINE, EXCELLENCE)

Physical Education is a required course mandated by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Physical Education is a classroom subject, therefore rules and regulations will apply as in any other classroom setting.

  1. Gym Uniforms
  2. The following is required:
  3. Regulation gym suit for boys and girls is anUlrich Physical Education T-Shirt (tucked in), and shorts. They can be purchased through the physical education department, at a cost of $16.00 per set or $8.00 each item.
  4. Court Shoes / Tennis shoes are required; shoelaces must be tied at all times.
  5. Athletic socks are recommended.
  6. Student is required to have their name on their uniform. In permanent marker.(Last name, First name)
  7. Students will not share P.E. uniforms or lockers.
  8. Uniforms are to be taken home at least once a week to be washed.
  9. Suiting-Out
  10. Students are required to dress out daily, even if they are excused from active participation.
  11. No clothes are to be worn over the gym suit unless permitted by an instructor (warm-ups, etc.).
  12. Appropriate action will be taken for students who do not dress out. First Offense – verbal warning, Second - Fourth Offense – parent contact, Fifth Offense – office referral, per six-weeks.
  13. Rental suits are available to the students at a cost of fifty-cents per day and must be returned daily.
  14. All Jewelry is prohibited, i.e. watches, rings, earrings, etc. during physical education class.
  15. Showering is recommended after each activity; towels are provided for students use.
  16. NO aerosol cans or glass containers are permitted on campus at any time.
  17. For the student’s protection, hair MUST be pulled back and out of their eyes during class.
  18. Recommended for students that wear eye glasses should have a sports strap to help keep glasses secure.
  19. No food in the locker rooms.
  20. Temporary Excuses
  21. Signed excuses from a parent or guardian will be accepted for a maximum of three consecutive days. The parent note needs to include: the date, reason for the excuse, number of days to be excused, parent or guardian signature and phone number.
  22. Excuses longer than three-days require a statement from a doctor specifying the number of days the student is to be excused.
  23. Lock, Lockers & Fees
  24. Required $4.00 “Gym Usage Fee” (Locks, towels and laundry soap) for Physical Education.
  25. Only locks issued by the Physical Education Department may be used in the locker room. If the lock is lost a $5.00 fee will be charged to replace the lock.
  26. Lockers are assigned to the students for the school year. They may not switch lockers without their instructor’s permission.
  27. Absences
  28. Each day missed will require the student to make the activity up or write a one-page paper on any sports or health related topic, due prior to the end of the current six weeks.

KLEIN ISD GRADING GUIDELINES: SECONDARY PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Grades for each six weeks grading period will be based on a 100 point scale.

50% of grade will be awarded for Proper Attire, (Ulrich Physical Education T-Shirt, shorts, socks, & shoes).

50% of grade will be awarded for Measurable Activities, Participation, and Test.

PROPER ATTIRE, PARTICIPATION & MEASURABLE ACTIVITIES:

Percent grades are given daily and based on the following:

100% - student dressed out and actively participated during class.

75% - student dressed out and partially participated during class.

50% - student dressed out and did not participate during class.

0% - student did not dress out in proper attire (Ulrich Physical Education T-Shirt, shorts, socks, shoes).

MEASURABLE ACTIVITIES, TESTS & ASSIGNMENTS:

There will be Written Activity and Health Test each six weeks.

The Pacer run and/or the Bulldog Trail will be run once a week. The students will be evaluated on individual effort and improvements.

The PACER (Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run) is a multistage aerobic capacity test adapted from the 20 meter shuttle run. The test is progressive in intensity; it is easy at the beginning and gets harder at the end. The progressive nature of the test provides a built-in warm-up and helps students to pace themselves effectively. The objective is to run as long as possible back and forth across a 20-meter space at a specified pace that gets faster each minute.
