Architectural Technologist – Thunder Bay

As a key member of our production team in the Thunder Bay Office the successful applicant will be focusing on the Education and Health Care sectors with some Hospitality and Commercial work. You will be actively involved in producing design development and construction working drawings and evaluating and assimilating design changes introduced by the project architect. The successful individual will have experience in coordinating architectural drawings with the work of consulting engineers and will be able to maintain a high standard of work and create efficiencies where possible. Key responsibilities

•  Assist the Architect in the design of plans and preliminary cost estimate

•  Be proficient at construction detailing, developing and researching appropriate details, as well as in the preparation of project specifications.

•  Perform construction contract administration duties including construction site reviews, chairing construction progress meetings and providing site review reports.

•  Validating the similarity of plans and estimates to the guidelines, the code requirements and other regulation

•  Estimate and calculate the amount of workload and budget required for the completion of projects

•  Review existing documentation and visit sites in order to gather the essential data for the preparation of architectural drawing, documentation, models and/or preliminary estimations

•  Develop visualizations by using specialized computer software (Ex. 3D models)

•  Assist Technicians on the team and when required, supervise the work of Draftspersons that are designated to the project when help is needed

•  Attend the meetings of the design team

•  Perform all other related tasks that will help accomplish the project

Qualifications

•  Architectural degree or College diploma in Architectural Technology or all other equivalent training

•  Hold currently or be able to obtain and maintain relevant government security clearances

•  5 years or more of relevant Canadian experience in conception and CAD drawings

•  Proficient with the following software: AutoCad, REVIT and MS Office Suite including MS Project.

•  Experience in relevant project types will be considered an asset

•  Good initiative, attention to detail

•  Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

•  Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English required, plus French an asset

•  Excellent time management skills

•  Ability to work at a distance with multiple A49 architectural offices and multiple consultant groups an asset

•  Excellent organizational, interpersonal skills with the ability to assess and prioritize jobs and work under tight deadlines.

•  Experience in engineering consulting will be considered an asset.

•  Good initiative and attention to detail is critical.

•  Valid Driver’s license in the Province of Ontario.
