Country Reports

We will be working on our country research and reports in several steps. There are several reasons for doing country reports. One important reason is that in sixth grade we are supposed to learn about countries and cultures from around the world. Another is that we will be learning how to do research and a research project/paper. A third is learning how to and becoming more comfortable with presenting in front of an audience. Please pay careful attention to the requirements and deadlines. If you make sure each step is completed on time and to the best of your ability, you will not fall behind and you will not have an enormous amount of homework. Please be sure to do it now—do not procrastinate!

- No page limit but must include all topics from “notes” section above

- Must be at least 5 pages
- word processing: double-spaced, 12 point font, single-sided
- handwritten: in ink, double-spaced, single-sided

- Within the draft, you must have the following:

- conclusion

- Must meet same guidelines as the first (rough) draft
- Also must have few grammatical and punctuation mistakes
V.Resources/Bibliography
- Note taking
1. As you are taking notes, write the page numbers and names of reference materials in your
notes.
2. Don’t quote someone or something unless you give that person or book credit for it.
3. Write only main ideas and details, don’t write sentences unless quoting directly
- Bibliography
1. Must have at least 6 references
a. at least 3 of your resources must be from non-Internet references
2. look on the website under “Country Report” then “Tips for Bibliographies” to find information on how to document resources
VI.Title Page/Table of Contents
- Page 1 should include the following:
1. your country’s name
2. longitude and latitude degrees
3. galaxy, planet, hemisphere, and continent where your country is found
4. your name
5. date
6. grade, homeroom teacher’s name, school name
- Page 2 should be a Table of Contents
1. top line should be name of country
2. list all topics and page numbers to be found on as well as bibliography
- Page 3 should be flag
1. flag must be current national flag
2. can be your own drawing or a color copy/print out
3. flag should take up most of the page
4. previous national flags may also be included
5. description of flag (why there are certain colors, symbols, etc)
VII.Oral Presentation (date will be given later)
- We will be having a presentation day in May
- Students will be required to prepare a display for teachers, parents, and students to view
- each display must have a poster as well as other visual aids
- students will stand at their displays and present information to people
VIII.Power Point (due date will be given later)
- Each student will create a power point with information about his/her country
- These will be created completely at school (which means each student must have his/her information ready at the appropriate time)
