TITLE: Safety in the Science Laboratory

WHAT: “Duty or Standard of Care” is defined as an obligation, recognized by law, requiring conformance to a certain standard of conduct to protect others against unreasonable risk (Prosser et al., 1984). To a science teacher, this means lab safety. It is imperative for science teachers and districts to understand the duty of care owed to students in the science classroom. Along with generally protecting students from unreasonable risk of harm in a standard classroom, the behavior expected of a teacher to meet the duty of care in a lab environment changes with each lab situation. Therefore, science safety training is necessary for teachers to understand their obligation and help protect districts by providing safe laboratory environments.

In order to meet the expectations of duty of care and science safety, Erie 1 BOCES is proud to partner with the Western New York STEM Hub, to present this FREE workshop on Safety in the Science Laboratory provided by a certified trainer. Lunch will be the responsibility of the participant.
