Library Aide, Exempt Part-Time “On Call”

The Oakland Public Library seeks dedicated and talented Library Aides who are enthusiastic about serving the citizens of the communities within the City of Oakland by delivering excellent customer service, upholding their public services commitment to our patrons, and by making a difference in the lives of library users. The library is currently recruiting to add to its pool of “on call” exempt part-time Library Aides.

Additionally, the Library is looking for interested applicants to work with our delivery team to drive our OPL delivery vans, as well as handle, and deliver library materials for the daily delivery run throughout our 18 library locations. Successful applicants must have a valid California Driver’s License and be able to complete the City of Oakland’s online defensive driver’s course.

Job Details:

Exempt part-time Library Aide’s may perform routine circulation procedures, sorting and shelving, deliveries, and basic clerical duties as well as general library tasks in support of library operations.Job applicants must be able to lift 30-pounds.

The salary range for this classification is $16.15 per hour to $19.82 per hour, plus a Health and Welfare increment of $2.10 in lieu of benefits. Exempt part-time employees also receive prorated sick leave benefits, and are limited to working 960 hours annually.

Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for the Library Aide classification, as follows:

Education:

Job applicants must have a High School degree or diploma, or GED.

Experience:

Library Aide experience is not required for interested candidates to apply.

Note: proficiency in Spanish, Cantonese and/or Mandarin is highly desirable.

Exempt part-time application packets submitted for consideration must consist of:

  • A completed and signed City of Oakland Employment Application;
  • A completed and signed Oakland Public Library Part-Time Employment Questionnaire;
  • A copy of your High School degree or Diploma, or other verification of your degree/diploma (i.e. copy of GED, transcript).

Incomplete application packets will not be accepted and applicants will then be ineligible for consideration of exempt part-time employment with the Oakland Public Library.

Exempt part-time application materials are available at Oakland Public Library locations, as well as at the Oakland Public Library Main Library (125 14th Street) on the 2nd floor in the Financial & Administrative Services Office. For your convenience, the Financial & Administrative Services Office is open to the public on Monday – Tuesday from 10 am to 5 pm, Wednesday – Friday from noon to 5pm to obtain application materials.
