Part 1:
The student undertakes at least 32 hrs of studies within an elective course (often outside school) or makes some field visits to different places where social workers (socionomer) work. The student chooses an elective course or contact different work places in accordance with the course description. Responsible teacher should be contacted in advance for approval.
Part 2:
After completing the course or field visits, the student write an essay (10-12 pages) about:
-the course content/content of the field visits in relation to their own competence development and to the nationally approved competences for socionom YH (social workers graduated from Universities of Applied Sciences in Finland)
-the course content/content of the field visits in relation to current research and literature
The essay based on literature and the course certificate or document with places and dates for the field visits (including signature and contact information) are submitted to the course coordinator.
Assessment / Assessment of assignment(Assessment scale: 0-5):
-Ability to reflect on the course content in relation to national competences for socionom YH (social work) or ability to reflect on and connect the content of the field visits to the national competences
-Ability to reflect on one’s own competence development in a critical way
-Ability to analyze the course content/filed visits in relation to literature

Part 1 (3 ects): The student chooses literature (scientific articles and books) and write about the current development, challenges and trends in Social Services and Health Care. Student contacts responsible lecturer to get her/his acceptance concerning the chosen literature (altogether 250-350 pages). The title of the written assignment is chosen by the student himself/herself.
Part 2 (2 ECTS): After reading and writing about current development, challenges and trends within Social Services and Health Care, the student reflects on his/her own professional development – Which professional skills and what kind of knowledge still need to be developed in order to be a good professional and able to meet the requirements of working life in the future? The student must use the national competences for the Degree Programme in Social Services (Kompetensområdena för Socionom YH) as guidelines.
Assessment / Assessment of assignment:
- Ability to discuss the current development, challenges and trends in Social Services and Health Care based on theoretical knowledge and scientific research
- Ability to reflect on one’s own professional development linked to the requirements of working life today and in the future
