Strengths
I am a highly driven, self-motivated and hard-working translator who enjoys facilitating communication. I am highly experienced in the translation of technical German, specialising in assignments for the automotive trade. After nine years working in a translation agency, I understand the needs of customers and can prioritise to ensure that deadlines are met and quality guaranteed. Customer satisfaction is always my main focus. Now as a freelancer, I am keen to build on my previous knowledge while also developing into new areas of work which reflect my personal interests, such as botany, horticulture and the environment. I am working with a colleague of many years allowing all work to be proofread by a second person. Attention to detail and meticulous proofreading ensure high levels of quality at all times.
Relevant skills
I have many years experience of working in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Quark, as well as numerous translation tools including Trados, Transit and Mneme. As a translation manager, I perfectly balancecustomer relations, translation assignments and project management. I always take customer requirements on board to ensure that deadlines are met. I am fluent in German with an excellent command of both Russian and French.

- I joined Lochaber International as an ad hoc translator while writing up my Masters dissertation. Initially my work involved managing terminology databases and working on a major collaborative project in Transit.
- I become a junior salaried member of staff in June 1998. I gained experience working on a wide range of technical texts, focusing on the automotive trade.
- I became translation manager in 2000 where my role developed into one of project management, customer relations and translation.
- Responsibility for project management involves balancing capacities, prioritisation of work and assignment of work to the relevant translators. I am a flexible worker, with outstanding organisation skills so this suits my personality well.
- Customer relations is a demanding part of the job as I am the customer’s point of contact from initial enquiry right through to delivery. My sense of loyalty and commitment guide me to ensuring complete customer satisfaction.
- To develop my translation skills, I spent two weeks working in a gearbox factory to fully understand the technical texts I process.
