This season we reverted back to the old system of playing the matches on a home and away club basis and it turned out to work ok.

As you can see from the above table the final league standings, there were only two teams in this division, Leixlip and Pioneers, who were far superior than the rest of the teams.

Leixlip at home beat Pioneers 6-4 and saw Artur (Leixlip) winning his three singles and Pioneers at home beat Leixlip 7-2 and saw Derek(Pioneers) winning his three singles. As both teams finished level on points there will be a play-off to decide the winners.

It was reported that there was a few instances of misbehaviour during the Pioneer home match and the committee are in the process of dealing with this matter.

In the individuals Derek from Pioneers was the winner only losing two matches and was closely followed by Artur from Leixlip who was runner-up.

Pioneers beat Leixlip beat in the play-off to win premier.

Balgriffin started off the league really well with wins over Terenure 6-3, St. Pauls1 7-2 and St. Pauls1A 6-3 and 6-4 before they were held to a draw against Leixlip. In their match against Terenure five of the games went to the 5th set. Dave Pender beat Paudge 13/11 and Paul 11/9 both in the 5th set. Dave Gibbons was unlucky to lose two of his games in the 5th set. In Balgriffin’s return match against St. Pauls1A Pat Mc Cloughan beat Paudge 11/9 in the 5th set having lost to him in straight sets at home. Balgriffin won the doubles in the 4th set to get the win. They didn’t fare so well against Leixlip losing the doubles in straight sets to give Leixlip the draw. Susan had a good win over Dara in the 5th set.

Leixlip got themselves out of trouble in their match against St. Pauls1A by once again winning the doubles to give themselves the draw. They beat Terenure 6-3 but three of the games went to five sets and Leixlip won all three. Each of the Terenure players were involved in those five setters. Leixlip also beat St. Pauls1A 6-3 but again there a lot of five setters with Leixlip winning the majority of them.

In Terenure’s home match against St. Pauls1 which they lost 7-2 Dave Pender was the only Terenure player to win a match but Dave Gibbons was unfortunate in losing 11/9 in the 5th to Stephen. They fared better in the return match winning the doubles in straight sets to get the draw. Oliver and Eddie lost to Dave Pender 10/12 and 9/11 in the 5th. Terenure also did well in their match against Balgriffin winning the doubles 11/5 in the 5th set to get the draw.

Doubles again came into play in St. Pauls1 match against Leixlip with St. Pauls winning it 12/14 in the 5th set to get the draw. The only point St. Pauls1A got was from their draw with Leixlip. Unfortunately for Pat his team mates were too weak for this division.

Well done to Pat Mc Cloughan from St. Pauls1A on winning the individuals. The only two games he dropped were to Paudge Donohue and Eddie Hockey. Susan played very well to take runner-up spot with a number of players hot on her heels.

Before I finish I have to make a comment about a certain captain returning his score sheets so quickly. In previous years I knew his phone no. off by heart I had to ring him so often, but last year I got talking to his wife and as they say behind every man is a good woman. I’ll say no more.

Well done to everyone and we’ll see you all at the presentation on Sat 21st April.

Congratulations to Leinster on winning the league only losing 6-3 to ESB and drawing with Balgriffin 2a. They beat Balgriffin 2 7-2 both times and Leixlip 6-3 and 9-0. The 9-0 game was away and only one game went to 5 sets. ESB beat them 6-3 but lost to them by the same score line. ESB had two wins and two draws.

The two Balgriffin teams were holding their own with Johnny Moore’s team doing better than Robbie Davis team.

I haven’t got results from all these teams. I don’t know where the results have gone, or if they were sent at all.

Leixlip only drew one match as they had trouble getting subs and were out of their depth.

In the individuals Barney only lost one game to Robbie Davis. It was a very close match with Robbie winning it in the 5th set.

I would like to thank Barney for sending in all his results on time. He was the only one to do this.

Congratulations to Leixlip on winning this division with Balgriffin a very close runner-up. ESB and Pioneers both managed to take a point from Leixlip, thus stopping them achieving full points. Balgriffins only defeat was to Leixlip who beat them both home and away.

Leixlip dropped their only two points to Terenure who found their way to Leixlip to do the job.

I should congratulate Charlie Millar on beating Vinny O’Neill. Someone went to great lengths to highlight the result, so I should give it a mention.

There were some very close matches between the four other teams with ESB drawing with Glenville, Pioneers, Leixlip and Terenure.

Well done to Jim Davey on winning the individuals and Liam Perris runner-up.

Hope all prize winners will turn up to collect their trophies on 21st April in Home Farm.

Thank you all for your co0operation during the season and good luck in your cup matches.

Hi all. Well done to all who helped to make this division such an enjoyable one to look after. Many thanks to all who sent in their result sheets on time.

Congratulations to Balgriffin 4 on winning this division in style dropping only one point to their fellow club mates Balgriffin 5, with the match going to the doubles and Balgriffin 5 winning it in the 5th set 11/5 to get the draw. They won the rest of their matches quite easily but 23 of them went to five sets so all the teams made them work for their title.

The joint runners-up St. Pats and Balgriffin 5 beat each other home and away. Balgriffin won 6-4 at home winning the doubles 11/9 in the 5th set and St. Pats won their home match 7-2.

Leinster had three good draws, one at home to Balgriffin 5 and both home and away to Dundrum. Dundrum also drew with St. Pats and Leixlip and Leixlip drew with St. pats away from home. As the table shows, apart from the winners, the remaining five teams were very close.

Many congratulations to Christy Ray from St. Pats on winning the individuals by one point ahead of Alan Lyons from Balgriffin 4. Again as the table shows the remaining players were very close behind.

In conclusion of the report I would just like to let you know the stats. There were 63 five set games, nine deciding doubles, 7 draws and 2 teams getting the runner-up spot and also very close individuals. So very well done to everybody involved and enjoy the cup matches. Hope to see you all on the 21st April.

A great division to manage. Only two fixtures re-arranged. A good close finish in the end with four teams within three points of each other.

Leixlip came out on top with 14 points and St. Pats and Balgriffin right behind with 12 points each. St. pats had a strong finish winning their last four matches. However Leixlip just held on in the end.

The individuals were pretty close with three players Owen Hickey, Gary Long and Brian Kestell fighting it out to the very end. Owen finished on top with 25 points only dropping five games. Gary came second with 23 points and his club mate Brian with 22 points.

Balgriffin , Alsaa, Glenville and Leixlip all started well in the first few weeks. Apart from a draw with Glenville in their 2nd match Balgriffin kept up their winning form throughout the remaining weeks and looked like they were going to win the division undefeated, but they were soundly beaten by Leixlip in their last match and finished on 17 points. Leixlip with 15 points were a close 2nd winning seven of their matches. They drew one with Alsaa and lost one to both Balgriffin and Glenville.

Alsaa and Glenville had the most draws in the division with four each and drew against each other on both occasions. Glenville fared a bit better in their other matches winning four and losing only two to pip Alsaa by two points and finish in 3rd spot on 12 points.

Alsaa won three and lost three of their remaining matches and finished on 10 points.

While ESB and IWA didn’t score highly they both had some very close matches. ESB drew once with Alsaa and both drew and beat IWA, and had they won the doubles against Glenville and Leixlip they would have forced a draw with both teams. IWA also drew with Glenville and were unlucky not to beat them as they were 5-4 up going to the doubles, which they lost in the 5th set.

The individuals resulted in a tie for 1st place with Boudjel from Balgriffin and Martin Whelan from Glenville on 26 points. With only a few matches remaining and going on his consistant winning form it looked like Boudjel was going to take 1st place as he had only dropped one singles throughout. Martin was closest to him but both Jim Fitzsimons from Alsaa and Pauline Harper from Leixlip weren’t far behind them and all three looked like strong contenders for runner-up spot. However, in his second last match Boudjel dropped one singles and went into his last match on 25 points, one point behind Martin who had finished his matches. He fought hard but had his worst result of the league only winning one singles to finish level with Martin on 26 points.

Well played to everyone and congratulations to the winners and runners up.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the presentation night.

Finally I would like to thank all the teams for sending in their results so promptly and making my job so easy.

Hello all. Another league season has come and gone. Firstly let me say thanks to all captains for returning results so promptly. I must say that this has been the best division I have had the pleasure of stewarding in all my years in this great job.

As the table shows there was Leixlip, Navan and the rest. The difference between them in the end was their games against one another. Leixlip won both 6-3 at home and 6-4 away. All other matches between the other four teams were 6-3. 6-4 with the odd 7-2 and 8-1 thrown in.

As you can see from the table the individuals was really close with Jim Finglas from St. Pauls 4 just winning it by one point over Mohammad .

Well done to all for completing all matches on time

Once more thanks to all captains for a job well done. Hop to see you all in HOME FARM on Sat 21st April for live music and fun.
