School Uniform Consultation

Dear Parent/Carer

School Uniform – Raising the Standards & ‘Dressing for Excellence’

Over the years we have enjoyed the support of our Parents in sustaining the wearing of school uniform. We believe that the wearing of full school uniform promotes a positive ethos in school as well as ensuring the health and safety of our pupils and also prevents competitive dressing.

As part of a bigger discussion with pupils on the move to the new school we have been consulting with the Pupil Council Reps to look at revamping the current school uniform.

The pupils have decided to keep the present school badge, motto and colours but would like to design a new school tie. We have also been discussing the wearing of blazers for all pupils from S1 to S6 and the length of girls skirts. The feedback from the pupils so far is to hold a competition to design a new school tie for everyone to wear, for all pupils to wear blazers and on the blazers there would be either a braiding or a badge for PE Scholars/Art Scholars or Attainment Scholars. The pupils also understand that the girls skirts should be of an appropriate length and will obviously need to be nearer knee length than they are at the moment.

The next step for the pupil consultation is for the pupils to meet with suppliers of uniforms to look at different blazers, design of ties, lengths of skirts and then to start a competition to design the new tie.

At this stage we would like to extend our consultation to you as parents to see if you agree with the pupils decisions or if you have any other ideas that we could utilise.

I would urge you to go online and complete a uniform survey which gives you the opportunity to put forward your views on our school uniform. The link for the survey can be found on the school website or just follow the link:

Thank you for taking the time to give us your ideas and support us with our aim to see all pupils in full school uniform, including blazers. We are confident in your continuing support in securing the highest standards in ‘Dressing for Excellence’.

Yours sincerely
