Welcome back to what I know will be an exciting and rewarding year with the Bountiful Choirs! Included in this disclosure is information regarding Course Objectives, Grading Policy, Materials for Class, and Important Dates. Please read through the information carefully, paying close attention to the dates of performances. Please mark these required dates on your calendar now and plan on attending these wonderful performances.

I.  Course Objectives

1.  Students will experience learning and growth in the following areas: Vocal Development, Development of Musicality, Music Appreciation and History, Sight Reading, Music Literacy, Music Theory, Movement, and Performance & Concert Etiquette.

2.  Students will experience self-reflection and self/group evaluation, learning to evaluate and analyze musical performances.

II.  Grading Policy

1.  Classroom Performance- 45%

a.  Students will come prepared for class each day so participation can be maximized.

b.  Students will make a positive contribution to the choir as a whole, and be willing to participate with a positive attitude.

c.  Students will complete daily music theory, sight-reading, and rhythm exercises.

2.  Skills Assessment- 40%

a.  Students will be asked to sing in quartets/small ensembles to demonstrate accurate and proficient knowledge regarding repertoire learned in class.

b.  Skills Assessments will include being quizzed orally on music theory, sight reading, and rhythms learned during class.

c.  Students will attend all required performances. 4-week written notice is required to notify Mrs. Bradbury of an absence from a concert. School policies regarding Excused vs. Unexcused Absences will be applied.

3.  Tests/Exams- 15%

a.  This category includes written exams, specifically end-of-the-quarter exams.

A 93-100% A- 90-92% B+ 87-89%

B 83-86% B- 80-82% C+ 77-79%

C 73-76% C- 70-72% D+ 67-69%

D 63-66% D- 60-62% F 0-59%

III.  Materials

1.  Students should have a sharpened pencil, spiral notebook and pocket folder for each class day.

IV.  Important Dates

1.  Please mark the following dates on your family calendar so no conflicts arise. Just to clarify, the following abbreviations may be used:

a.  CALL= The time that students should arrive for the concert

b.  Participants:

i.  Concert= 9th grade Concert Choir

ii. Girls= 8th grade Girls Choir

iii.  Boys= 8th grade Boys Choir

c.  BJH= Bountiful Junior High

d.  VHS= Viewmont High School

As part of the choral curriculum, students will occasionally watch excerpts of movies related to what we are studying. The possible movie titles are as follows. If you do not want your student to view a particular movie, please indicate below. Otherwise, by signing the disclosure you give permission for your student to view portions of the following movies/programs:

Singing’ In the Rain, Guys and Dolls, The Glen Miller Story, The Music Man, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma!, Beethoven Lives Upstairs, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, The King and I, West Side Story, Newsies, Stomp Out Loud, White Christmas, Meet Me In St. Louis, Abbott and Costello, Soundscapes from Lord of the Rings, South Pacific, The Story of Jazz, An American in Paris.
