SCOPE OF WORK: Mentors students who participate in the Project Success Single Parent Program or are enrolled in a nontraditional career program for their gender, to assist in their understanding of course and college expectations and their development of a plan for successfully meeting them. Assists with recruitment for these populations and manages stipends and awards designed to support enrollment and retention. This position reports to the Director of the Center for Academic Planning and Support (CAPS).

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assure that students in CTE programs nontraditional by gender and Project Success programsunderstand and enroll in support services through the college as needed for successful completion of the semester.
  • Track progress and gather data in collaboration with the institutional researcher about success, obstacles and completion of these students.
  • Manage tuition award and book stipends for these students.
  • Serves as liaison between GBCCcareer and technical programs and local public schools offering career and technical courses and programs.
  • Coordinate the development of marketing materials for schools and career fairs.
  • Assist in coordination of visitation days with Running Start students in career and technical courses and with local Career and Technical High School Education programs,with a focus on nontraditional programs by gender.
  • Complies with all system, college, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with a major in education or related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Two(2) years of professional or paraprofessional experience in a field or occupation relevant to education in a higher education setting with responsibility for planning, monitoring programs, or performing research. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in an academic institution preferred.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of the organization and operations of the college in which position is assigned. Considerable knowledge of the principles of administrative work. General knowledge of current literature in specialized field of work. Ability to write technical information. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with college officials, employees and the general public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college’s appointing authority.
