Dear Parents

After the tremendous success of 2013 Tour to Cape Town, I am delighted to offer pupils currently in Senior 9 (Girls), Senior 10, PVIand LVI an opportunity to take part the next Senior sports tourduring February half term 2015. The tour will provide the opportunity for two Football squads and two netball squads to play 4 fixtures against a range of Club and School opposition in and around Cape Town.

We shall depart on Wednesday 11February 2015 and will return on the morning ofSaturday 21 February 2015. The squads will be accompanied by members of the Physical Education department.

The price of the trip is in the region of£1800-£1900and we would expect pupils to work during the holidays in order to support the cost, which includes:

  • Return air travel to Cape Town
  • All airport taxes
  • Airline failure insurance and ATOL protection
  • 9nightsbed and breakfast accommodation, sharing twin/triple bedded rooms.
  • The organisation of 4 fixtures per team and after matchentertainment
  • All Coach transfers
  • The use of Stellenbosch Universitytraining facilities
  • All Excursions
  • Viewing of South African Pro and Stellenbosch Universitysporting fixture
  • Evening entertainment/meals

All pupils who have declared an interest in the tour have been given a booklet which provides a provisional itinerary for the tour.

We intend to take two football squads consisting of a total of 26 boys and twonetball squads of approximately 16-18 girls. It is important that we tour with the strongest possible squadswith the tour’s focus being on preparation and development for current and future 1st and 2nd team senior squads.

Selection

We intend to hold a selection session on Saturday 29 Marchbetween 9.00-10.30am.In order to select the tour party, the pupils’ physical fitness, skills and game play will be assessed. In the event of injury or enforced absence, previous performance in lessons and inter-school fixtures will be taken into account. Pupils selected to tour will be representing IPS on a global scale and therefore selection will also be favourable to those pupils demonstrating the highest standards of behaviour, camaraderie and discipline. Pupils who are not initially successful will be included on a waiting list.

May I take this opportunity to stress that pupils should only attend the selection session if they are fully committed to academic study at IPS.

Payment

The tour party will be announced on Wednesday 23 April, and a letter will then be sent to pupils requesting a non-refundable chequedeposit of £300, due by Friday 25April. Further payment for the trip will be arranged by installments on your School invoice.

I am very much looking forward to this tour, which is an exciting opportunity that will continue to strengthen the sporting development atIPS.If your son or daughter would like to participate in the selection process, please complete the slip attached by Friday 7 February 2013 and return directly to the P.E. office.
