RESIDENT CAMP COUNSELOR
The Howell Conference & Nature Center’s Summer Resident Camp is a Christian camp owned by the Presbytery of Detroit. Our Resident Camp Counselors will help kids take their next step with God by providing age-appropriate faith lessons every morning and evening. Throughout the week, staff will guide campers in a variety of activities while teaching our five key values: faith, self-worth, leadership, fellowship, and FUN!
Qualifications
●High school graduate, or at least 18 years of age
●Desire and ability to work with children of all ages in an outdoor setting
●Demonstrate knowledge and skill in designated camp activity areas
●Enthusiasm, integrity, sense of humor, patience, and self control
Reports to
●Resident Camp Coordinator
●Program Coordinator
Responsibilities
●Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures
●Instruct campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills, evacuating the cabin, etc
●Ensure campers are properly supervised at all times
●Supervise all assigned aspects of the campers’ day, including morning routines, cabin clean-up, mealtimes, rest hour, vespers, evening activities, bedtime, and after-hours duties as assigned
●Guide and encourage your cabin group and individual campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities
●Assist in program areas such as waterfront, nature, all-camp activities, and arts and crafts as directed
●Be a role model to campers and fellow staff in your attitude and behavior
●Maintain good public relations with campers’ parents at check-in and check-out
●Assist in the opening and closing of camp, performing any necessary physical maintenance duties.
●Conduct daily inspections of equipment at program areas for safety, cleanliness, and good repair. Immediately report any equipment needing repair
●Complete all other duties as assigned
Some physical requirements of a Resident Camp Counselor position could require endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
