Begin initial read of the story:
-Start as a whole group for pages 324 to get students started and facilitate discussion.
-Break into small groups (Block 1) or paired reading for pages 325-327.
Bring whole group back together to review what we have learned about Lincoln. What new questions do we have based on the information?

What was the Civil War?
-SmartBoard presentation detailing this a little more for students. Discussion questions will be presented on the material that will be talked of in small groups.
-Discuss the opposing sides of slavery and why some believed it was ok.
*This will lead into the Literacy Work activities next week with an argumentation writing section.
-Show students short video on Abraham Lincoln from Discovery Education that is linked through Abe SmartBoard lesson.
*Blocks 2/3 will have a group doing INDEPENDENT reading during guided reading Tuesday-Thursday*
