Casey N. Bates - Art Teacher Creative Art/Portfolio/Ind.Studio

- What Do I Need For This Class? -

I will provide a list of several things we need as a class (i.e. tissues, cleaning spray, sponges, etc). Please sign up to contribute 2 items from the list and bring those to class by Wednesday.

- What Do I Bring Everyday? -

You will need paper, pencil, eraser, folder, paint palette (of some sort, you can use a Styrofoam plate if you want, just know this item is your responsibility), and your sketchbook EVERYDAY. This is a pretty fair exchange since there is no textbook. Your sketchbook should meet the following criteria:

- - at least 5” x 8” - - 100 white pages - - should NOT have lines - Art Club will have sketchbooks available for purchase for $3 and palettes for $2. - Please do not use this sketchbook for any other purpose outside of Art. Do not start drawing in the sketchbook until given further directions please.

No Sketchbook = No Grade No Palette = You Donʼt Paint I Donʼt Loan Palettes/Sketchbooks

Please be advised that we will be working with materials that can be very messy. Please dress accordingly, (or leave a large t-shirt or apron in your locker that you can easily access if needed).

**NEW FOR THIS YEAR!**

Members of each table/station will be assigned a storage box of materials exclusively for their table.
Several of these materials will be provided, including: 1 storage box with lid, 1 liquid glue, 4stick glue, 1 scotch tape, 2 rulers, 2 pencils, 4 erasers, 3 pencil sharpeners, 3 shading stumps, 6 paint brushes, 2 sets colored pencils (14/ea.), 2 set markers (8/ea.), 5 paints (black, white, red, yellow, blue), 1 palette knife, 1 mixing container

Each table is asked to add the following items to their box: 1 liquid glue, 1 small spray bottle,
4 paint brushes, 1 set colored pencils, and 2 rulers

These are the materials your table will use for the semester. They will be under lock and key when not in use. When they are gone, it is your table’s responsibility to replace them. There will be a laminated list of the contents in the box for your convenience to help you keep track of your materials. I do not recommend loaning out your materials. It is my hope that this system will eliminate waste and destruction of your art supplies, as we tend to take better care of things when they are “ours”.

Other items:

We will be doing several different projects throughout the year that will require additional small items to be brought in. I will let you know approximately a week or more in advance to provide adequate time for you to bring in the required items. Items may include:

Yarn for Weaving, Theme Items for Newspaper Basket, 4”x6” Close Up Photo for Self-Portrait, Plastic Bags for Ceramics, Aluminum Foil for Texture Rubbings, Dixie Cups for Ceramic Glazing, Toothpicks for Ceramic Detailing, etc.

Remember when asked to bring in these (for the most part) common household items that you are permitted to keep most to all of your artwork that was done with materials (paint, paper, canvas, brushes, clay, etc) that the school supplied to you at no charge. Many schools charge a fee to participate in their art courses. We are fortunate to not charge any such fee at SWHS.
Western Kentucky University charges a $50 course fee for EVERY studio art course taken.
