Curriculum

This week during our Morning Meetings, we will discuss the following quote: “The more that you read, the more things you’ll know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”-Dr. Seuss

Literacy

As we continue to read historical fiction, students will connect nonfiction to historical fiction, interpret figurative language to infer the thoughts and feelings of characters, and learn from the choices that characters face and how this impacts history.
Book Clubs will meet to discuss, provide support, and practice reading strategies.
Our Historical Fiction Unit Test will be on March 16th.
Literacy Homework: Students will complete assignments in the EOG practice book (Ready North Carolina). Passages and multiple choice questions will be assigned on Monday and students have the opportunity to have their work checked Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. Assignments will be collected on Friday and will be counted as a literacy informal grade.
Homework Assignment: pages 8-18, questions 13-28 (due March 9)

Social Studies
Students will learn about the main means of communication in North Carolina, such as newspapers, TV stations, and internet websites. Students will also learn about some of the important inventors in the history of communication.

Math

Students will begin Topic 10 - Multiplying Fractions. This will be a very short unit of study. We will multiply fractions by a whole number (5 x 6/10 = 3). There will be a Topic 10 assessment on Tuesday, March 13. Students will receive a weekly math on Monday, March 5. This weekly math will include the review/study guide for the test. The weekly math can be pre-checked on Tuesday,Wednesday,and Thursday mornings.It will be due on Friday, March 9th.

Science

Students will wrap up their investigation of "Soil".Students will work on a project that takes them through the rock cycle and the characteristics of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. We will guide the students throughreading the magazineand highlighting important facts, details, and vocabulary words. Students should be reviewing their notes and articles each night to help them prepare for the test. They will have a formal assessment on Thursday, March 8th.
