BACKGROUND

International Medical Corps is a leading international humanitarian agency which responds to the population’s health and psychosocial needs in humanitarian settings, while also supporting the recovery of systems and services in transitional and development contexts.

International Medical Corps UK office was established in 2002 in order to manage the European donor based grant portfolio and represent International Medical Corps at operational and technical fora. The office has a dynamic staff and a growing portfolio of humanitarian, transition and development programmes in Africa, Asia and Middle East.

Programmes Unit

The key objectives of the Programme Team is to enable International Medical Corps to increase and improve its capacity in the field to develop proposals, secure funding and successfully implement humanitarian programmes funded by European institutional donors. The Programme Assistant is central to the support to the Programmes Team and has the following specific duties and responsibilities:

• Assisting the UK programmes team with day to day programmatic and general administrative duties

• Update the programme matrix and send out updates to TU/NFS and UK fundraising

• Coordinate the programme team’s updates for IMC UK’s monthly report

•Reviewing reports and development/review of proposals (there is the opportunity to focus on specific countries to engage with further- join country calls and support them)

• Maintain current knowledge and understanding of European and UK humanitarian and technical assistance policy agendas, debates and funding opportunities and disseminate to all appropriate parties.

• Represent IMC externally at country specific meetings and networks as required

• Provide backstopping support to Programme Officers where necessary

• Perform other duties as assigned by line manager

Essential person specification

• Some understanding and experience of European Institutional Donors

• A degree in a relevant subject or sufficient and relevant experience in a similar role

• At least a basis understanding of humanitarian aid and development programming

• Self-motivated, positive attitude, flexible and adaptable to the needs of team and organisation

• Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills

• Good computer skills- Microsoft Office including excel

• Strong organisational and time management skills

• Proficient in English

Desirable requirements

• Experience of writing successful project proposals and reports

• Experience of working in health

• Good level of numeracy and understanding of budgets and financial reports

• Experience of working in a developing country

• Strong project planning, management and execution skills.
