GLA-ONS has dedicated funds to support educational activities for nurses who demonstrate excellence in quality patient care and mentorship in oncology nursing.

GLA ONS welcomes all active members to apply for an Education Award.

Awards may be awarded each year for the following:

ONS Conferences

w  ONS Congress

ONS Advanced Practice

ONS Research Conference

Rose Mary Carroll Johnson Award (Nursing Education)

Bachelor’s in Nursing

Master’s in Nursing

Doctorate in Nursing (PhD, DNP, etc…)

SELECTION PROCESS:

The GLA-ONS Scholarship Review Committee and the GLA-ONS Board will review all nominations and make a decision at the next board meeting following the deadline. Nominees will be notified of the award the following week and award will be announced at the subsequent GLA-ONS meeting.

All awards, grants, and scholarships are tentative and subject to change based on funding availability.

Award: Up to $1200 - May be applied to tuition, registration fees and/or related travel expenses. Receipts are REQUIRED

NOTE: Monies will NOT be given PRIOR to the event. This is a Reimbursement Award.

Education: BSN- $1000

MSN- $1500

DOCTORATE- $2000

Applicant’s Eligibility Criteria:

The applicant must meet the following criteria:

w  Hold an active California RN License & active membership of National ONS and GLA-ONS

w  Must have at least 2 years in oncology

w  Demonstrate significant contribution to 1 or more of the following related to oncology:

w  GLA- ONS chapter activities (see below for scoring criteria)

w  Professional and/or patient education

w  Clinical practice

w  Chapter research

w  Serve as a role model for other nurses.

w  Has not received an educational grant from GLA-ONS in the last 3 years

Must fulfill requirements prior to receiving the award monies.

This includes writing a GLA-ONS Newsletter article on the experience and how it promoted the values of ONS.

scoring criteria for ACTIVE GLA-ONS involvement (This will influence the selection of the awardee).

Active GLA-ONS involvement may include:

w  Participation on committees or taskforces

w  Articles written for GLA-ONS newsletter

w  Community outreach in oncology

w  Recruitment of new members to ONS/GLA-ONS, including enrollment to ONSTAT

w  Holding past offices

w  Community Outreach

w  Future plans for contribution to GLA-ONS:

w  Professional/patient education related to sponsored program attendance

w  Chapter research project

w  Specific educational interventions

w  Program development (i.e., Chapter Chemo class)

w  April 1st for ONS Congress

w  Prior to each board meeting- April 1st, June 1st, Sept. 1st, and Nov. 1st for an education award for either a BSN, MSN, or Doctoral degree.

NOTE: For the Bachelor’s and Master’s Programs candidates must have a current RN CA License and be registered in an accredited program.
