Position drive frame on base frame with front of drive frame towards water
Mount drive frame to base frame using all four thumbscrews
Rotate drive frame over beach
Ensure that object frame thumbscrews are unscrewed from drive frame
Match mating surfaces of object frame to drive frame and mount with top thumbscrews first
Detach spring clips from individual eyebolts
Attach spring clips from sample and choice set cables to drive frame eyebolts
Attach rope handles to drive frame cable spring clips
Ensure that all cables and shields on object frame hang freely and move smoothly
Push down on drive frame to engage black latch
Unlatch safety latch spring clips and raise apparatus into upper position

APPARATUS OPERATION
For double-blind testing, make sure shields are down
Attach objects
Raise shields
Rotate apparatus over water
Lower and latch apparatus into underwater testing position
Release sample object
Raise sample object and release choice set
WHEN TRIAL IS COMPLETE, LOWER BOTH OBJECT SETS INTO WATER & RAISE BOTH ROPE HANDLES UP BEFORE RAISING APPARATUS INTO UPPER POSITION
Raise apparatus into upper position
Rotate apparatus over beach
APPARATUS DISASSEMBLY
Lower and latch apparatus into lower position while rotated over beach with objects attached
Attach both safety latch clips
Pull up on apparatus to release black latch
Remove objects
Attach object spring clips to individual eyebolts
Unmount tethering devices
Unclip object frame cable clips from drive frame eyebolts
Flip object frame up to vertical folded position
Organize object shields and loop black wire loops around eyebolts to secure shields in place
Remove object frame thumbscrews and detach object frame from drive frame, bottom first
Reattach loose object frame thumbscrews to prevent loss
Stow object frame neatly to prevent damage to cables and shields

TASK / COMPLETED
Check tightness of all frame joints. Tighten screws if necessary.
Inspect black latch for damage. Replace if necessary.
Check all spring clips for smooth motion. Replace if necessary.
Check for wobble in turntable. Some wobble will be present always. If excessive, tighten by holding center retaining bolt in place using 3/8” allen wrench and tighten double locknuts using 15/16” ratchet if necessary. Do not over tighten or turntable will be difficult to rotate.
Check for tightness of all eyebolts. Tighten if necessary.
Check for tightness of all screws on drive frame and object frame. Tighten if necessary.
Check for sturdiness of base frame. Tighten screws if necessary.
Check condition of threads on eyebolt mounting nuts. Replace if necessary.
Check condition of grommets on object shields. If rust is present, coat with liquid electrical tape.
Check condition of object shields for missing grommets or any wear or holes. Repair or replace if necessary.
Check condition of leveling feet. If difficult to turn, remove and clean threads with water and if necessary, a wire brush. Replace leveling foot after threads have dried.
Check entire apparatus for signs of rust or other corrosion. If necessary, clean and coat surfaces to prevent.
Check tethering straps for smooth motion of ratchet mechanism. Replace if necessary.
Inspect cables on frequently used objects for fraying and damaged black nylon insulation. Replace if necessary.
