May 2015
Welcome Vintage Ventures Camper,
Vintage Ventures is June 8 - 11 this year. Please arrive between 9:00 and 11:00 on Monday morning June 8th. Lunch will be at noon after we settle in to our cabins. Plan to leave after chapel on Thursday morning the 11th.
The general schedule includes wake-up bell at 7:00a, breakfast at 8:00a, chapel at 9:00a, lunch at noon, ice cream at 3:30p, supper at 6:00p, vespers at 7:00p. Monday evening will be a time for introductions and setting up the silent auction; Tuesday evening is the cookout (cook-in if it rains) and the Yankee Swap; Wednesday, is our ‘formal‘ dinner , so dress to the ’nines or perhaps the costume you’re planning to wear for talent night’, then we’ll wrap up the Silent Auction; followed by the Talent/Un-talent show - everything from singing and dancing, poetry and stories, jokes and skits, and any other talent you have to share; and Thursday morning we close camp with Communion after breakfast.
For this year’s mission project Pilgrim Lodge is supporting the “Friends of the Cobbossee Watershed” (FCW), especially as PL is located on Cobbossee Lake. Their mission is: “To engage individuals, businesses and communities in protecting and improving the lakes, ponds and stream of the Cobbossee Watershed.” There will be a presentation on Tuesday afternoon to show us what we can do to help. To raise money, we are trying something new this year - a silent auction. You may bring more than one item to auction. Items should be unwrapped and include a description of the item and starting bid. Remember, we are raising money for a worthy cause. The items will be on view from Monday evening to Wednesday evening. As we usually do, we also take a collection at the communion service on Thursday morning to augment our mission contributions.
Only one wrapped gift per person is needed for the Yankee Swap. Practical or fun items, perhaps something you have more than one of at home; no need to spend lots of money, just come to have fun.
The scriptures for this year’s focus are:
1Thessalonians 1:4-7Imitating Christ (WWJD)
Galatians 5:16-26The Fruit of the Spirit
Ephesians 4:1-6One Community
John 20:19-23Peace Wherever You Go
The scriptures listed above will appear throughout our week in morning chapel, evening vespers and other activities. Campers, in small groups, will be asked to volunteer to lead the above-mentioned events; Nancy and I will start off with Vespers on Monday evening.
Throughout the week as time and weather permit, there will be swimming, canoeing, and kayaking, a boat ride on Cobbossee Lake (if Steve‘s boat is in the water), as well as opportunities to experience the chapel and labyrinth as both are now accessible to all. There will be free time for you to share favorite games, movies, musical instruments, songs to sing, and/or projects with the group; and don’t forget to bring money for mid-afternoon ice cream!
For early June weather, bring warm clothing for cold days, cool clothing for warm days, and clothing for those in-between days; and don‘t forget your bathing suits, just in case! All cabins have wood stoves, hot showers, bunk beds possibly requiring extra padding, and porches and rocking chairs for leisure time. You will need bed linens, towels, and toiletries (don’t forget your prescription medication(s), and completed health forms for Nurse Margie), and anything else needed for your comfort.
There is increased emphasis by PL to limit electronics in camp. We Vintage Venturers may need to keep in touch with families who worry about us when we’re away from home. All we ask is that cell phone use be limited to your cabins or vehicles in the parking lot. That way we can perceive that we are free from the rest of the world for our few days. Please let your families know that any emergencies should come to the camp office and staff will get the messages out as soon as possible.
If you have any other questions about Pilgrim Lodge, please call Karen Steelhammer at PL, 207-724-3200. For questions about Vintage Ventures, call Pat at 207-751-2819 or Nancy at 207-460-6341.
Wishing you safe travels………..Nancy MacArthur and Pat Seaward
