Course Set-Up:
Homework, and Concept Checks:
• Each Unit contains several topics, which can be accessed using the navigation bar on the left.
• Each topic includes a video, concept check and homework.
• While watching the video, you should follow along and take notes.
• To access homework, you must score at least a 70% on the concept check for that topic.
• You may do the homework in any order within a unit, but please follow the calendar for due dates of particular assignments. If you do not complete your homework by the due date, there will be a 5% penalty on that assignment.
• As you work through homework, you will have several problems that have help buttons for you to use, followed by a few problems without help buttons. This is on purpose; it serves to help you see if you really understand the topic.
Quizzes:
• Within each unit, there are two quizzes that must be completed before taking the unit exam.
• In order to access a quiz, you must complete all homework assignments associated with that quiz, with a minimum of 85% per homework assignment.
• Quizzes may be taken multiple times on any computer with Internet access. You may review previous quizzes under Gradebook. If there is a topic that you do not understand, contact your instructor. If you fail a quiz 2 times, contact your instructor to go over your mistakes.
Unit Exams:
• At the end of each unit there is an exam which must be taken in class. In order to take the exam, you are required to earn an 80% minimum on all quizzes from that unit, as well as an 85% on the Review for the Unit Test.
• To pass to the next unit, you must earn a 75% minimum on the exam.
• If you do not earn a 75% on your first attempt, you are required to complete a personalized homework with a minimum of 85% before retesting.
• Only your highest score for each quiz or test will be counted towards your final grade.
Testing out of Unit 1:
There is a Pretest for units 1. During the first two weeks of the semester, you will be required to take the Pretest for this unit. If you earn at least a 75% then you are exempt from the homework, quizzes and post test from this unit.
Additional Help:
You must start by watching the video, completing the course notebook for the topic you are working on, and attempting the concept checks. Your instructor or tutor may ask to see your notes or notebook before helping you on a particular topic.
If you have watched the video and are struggling with the material, you have several options for additional help:
• Watch Additional Videos (in the left navigation bar) – you will need QuickTime for these, which you can get for free at http://www.quicktime.com.
• Ask a classmate
• Ask your instructor
