FELLOWSHIP AT QUEEN ELIZABETH HOSPITAL BIRMINGHAM
GENERAL INFORMATION
The process to undertake the fellowship programme
1. Applying for fellowship and job offer (following an interview either in person or possibly skype)
2. Applying for GMC registration
3. Job letter from our hospital
4. Applying for visa
1. This is self-explanatory. The advert can be found on NHS jobs (https://www.jobs.nhs.uk/)
2. GMC registration is straight forward if you have FANZCA. All you needed to do is to provide all the standard documents and pay the money approximately £420.00 pounds. You need to make an online application with GMC if FANZCA is less than 3 years old. If it is more than 3 years old, they need to check the hard copy of FANZCA. Once the online application is submitted, with relevant documents, you will be asked to visit the GMC office (London or Manchester) for identity verification. You are likely to be given the full GMC registration from the following day. This is very straight forward process taking no more than half an hour (provided all the documents are in order)
3. After interviewing, offer letters will be sent within 24 hours. The candidates then have 7 days to confirm acceptance.
4. In terms of sponsorship for VISA, the HR department will have until the 5th of each month to get new Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) applications on to the UKBA/Home Office system – they only meet once a month to consider applications. They will then update HR on/around the 11th of the month, and the candidates get the CoS from HR around the 15th of each month. You can then apply for UK visa and understandably visa processing times vary between countries.
UK visa can be applied for at any major Australian cities for a reasonable price of ~$300. It will take 2~3 weeks normally as the candidate's passport will need to be sent to Manila to be granted a Visa.
Other matters to consider:
Accommodation: Unfortunately, hospital no longer has any on-site accommodation. However, there are decent flats/apartments for rent around hospital for a reasonable price.
Salary: The salary structure will be explained once everything is confirmed. However, the fellows get a decent pay deal and it is on par with a trainee registrar pay within UK.
