Job Description

Job Title: Play Therapist

Responsible to: Project Coordinator

Govan Home and Education Link Project

Hours: 28 hours per week during term time only (39 weeks a year)

Salary: up to £40,000 (pro-rata equivalent) depending on qualifications,

skills & experience

Roles & Responsibilities

  • To deliver individual Play Therapy and Therapeutic Groupwork to children referred by nursery and primary school
  • To work as part of a team to develop and deliver additional therapeutic services including pre-5 child & parentTheraplay groups and a Play Therapy Drop In service
  • To work as part of a team accepting referrals and assessing children/parents for the services
  • To manage a caseload in collaboration with project staff
  • To complete progress notes, general casenotes and reports
  • To maintain confidential casefiles according to current legislation and in accordance with the ethos and policies of Govan Home and Education Link Project and BAPT (British Association of Play Therapists)/PTUK (Play Therapy UK)
  • To assist in the organisation of regular review meetings and use these meetings to feedback to parents/carers, referrers and other relevant agencies on the child’s progress in therapy
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with relevant agencies e.g. education, social work, health & the voluntary sector
  • To promote and represent Govan HELP at meetings and events
  • To participate in team meetings and share practice issues
  • To take a lead role active role in monitoring and evaluation of the therapeutic services and work with the staff team to help achieve outcomes for families

PVG Scheme Membership

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 by the Exclusions and Exemptions (Scotland) Order 2003 and as such any appointment will be subject to them having appropriate PVG Scheme Membership.

PERSON SPECIFICATION – Play Therapist

Education/Qualifications / Essential / Desirable
Post Graduate Diploma in Play Therapy accredited by PTUK (Play Therapy UK) or BAPT (British Association of Play Therapy) / 
Experience
At least one year post qualifying experience of Play Therapy experience with children aged 3 to 12 years. / 
Experience in Theraplay / 
Experience in groupwork facilitation / 
Skills/Ability
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage time, prioritise workload and meet deadlines / 
Ability to work independently and as part of wider team / 
Good written communication skills / 
Computer literate – working knowledge of Word and Excel / 
Clean driving licence and access to a car / 
Values and attitudes
A high standard of work ethics; honest, reliable and willing to take a flexible approach to work requirements / 
An open minded and friendly approach to individuals, avoiding judgement and stereotyping / 
Knowledge & Understanding

Govan HELP

Main Terms & Conditions of Service

Management

The Project Coordinator of Govan HELP will provide line management support with monthly supervision and an annual appraisal review. Additional clinical supervision will be paid for by Govan HELP.

Location

The post will be based at the Govan HELP offices – 635 Govan Road and 6 Harmony Row. Therapy will take place within Govan Road Campus & Pirie Park Primary.

Hours of Work

The post will be for 28 hours per week for 39 weeks a year, as is no therapy during the school holidays. There will be very occasional evening work. There is no additional payment for overtime and unsociable hours, but time off in lieu will be given for hours worked in excess of contracted hours.

Funding

This post is funded until at least December 2016, and a decision on the longer term funding for this post is expected around the beginning of March.

Expenses

Govan HELP will pay towards some costs ofclinical supervision & CPD (Continual Personal Development) training.

Transport

Reimbursement will be made for expenses incurred on business travel - for car use an allowance of 0.45p per mile will be paid

Pension

The post-holder will be eligible to join NEST Pension Scheme. The employer contribution is 3%

Annual Leave

There will be 12 paid annual leave days to be taken during the 39 weeks.

Probation

There will be a probationary period of six months followed by a review

Notice

The notice period will be one month
