The Department of Entomology is a strong and nationally recognized department offering highly ranked programs of study at the undergraduate, Master of Science, and PhD levels. The department has a distinguished faculty who have won numerous University and national awards for quality teaching, outreach, and published research. The faculty work in a variety of fields including molecular biology and genetics, medical and veterinary entomology, insect ecology, taxonomy and systemics, urban entomology, apiculture, biological control and integrated pest management in plant and animal systems.

The department’s graduate program is recognized nationally (NRC ranked #4) and internationally for both its quality and breadth. Graduates of the M.S. and Ph.D. programs take faculty positions at universities in the U.S. and abroad, andresearch positions with government agencies and international organizations, and positions with private sector firms.

In addition, the department has active extension programs, collaborating with other collegiate units, regional outreach centers, government agencies and private industry to deliver state-of-the-art applied research and education on issues such as health of insect in multifunctional landscapes, biocontrol and integrated pest management programs, and honey bee management through the Bee Squad and Master Gardners.

Responsibilities:

The head provides administrative leadership to Department of Entomology. This position provides strong support for and leadership to the teaching, research, extension and outreach activities, as well as the agricultural community, including the work of affiliated centers. This position represents the department within the University and to the broader state, national and international communities served by its faculty. The head actively supports the securing of adequate resources for the department to strengthen and broaden its mission, nurture linkages with other units in the University, and advance its already strong international reputation.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Candidates must have an earned doctorate in entomology or a closely related field.
  • Record of excellence in research, teaching and or outreach productivity that meets the criteria for rank of full professor in the department. Candidate must be eligible for tenure at the rank of full professor in the Department of Entomology.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience after the completion of the doctoral degree.
  • Record of administrative experience to include experience in fiscal management.
  • Ability to create and articulate a unit vision.

Nature of Appointment:

Academic and administrative appointment will be on a twelve-month basis as Head and tenured faculty position as full professor. The initial administrative appointment is for three years with subsequent annual reappointment dependent on performance and outcome of administrative reviews conducted every three to five years. Salary is commensurate with experience and achievement, and carries an administrative salary augmentation.

Timeline:
