A RESOLUTION expressing appreciation to Norton Healthcare for its workforce development, commitment to health care, and services provided to the people of Jefferson County and all citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
WHEREAS, Norton Healthcare has provided services to the citizens of Jefferson County, Southern Indiana, and the entire Commonwealth of Kentucky for more than a century; and
WHEREAS, Norton Healthcare has more than forty locations throughout the Louisville and the surrounding area, and operates seven hospitals, owns five immediate care centers, and owns or manages fifty-three physician practices; and
WHEREAS, Norton Healthcare employs 9,100 health professionals and staff and has more than 2,000 physicians on its medical staff; and
WHEREAS, Norton Healthcare is the largest health care provider and the third largest employer in Jefferson County; and
WHEREAS, Kosair Children's Hospital, one of the leading children's hospitals in the United States, is part of Norton Healthcare; and
WHEREAS, Norton Hospital and Norton Suburban Hospital deliver more babies than any other hospital in Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, Norton and Norton Audubon hospitals have been ranked among the best providers of cardiac services in the region, providing services to Jefferson, Oldham, Spencer, Hardin, and Bullitt Counties, and Norton Audubon Hospital is ranked in the top fifteen percent in the nation for medical cardiology; and
WHEREAS, Norton Hospital and the University of Louisville are preparing to bring a new cancer center to the people of Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, in 2002, Norton Southwest Hospital was ranked as one of "America's Best Hospitals" for the treatment of respiratory disorders by U.S. News & World Report; and
WHEREAS, the Norton Hospital Leatherman Spine Center combines the efforts of orthopaedic surgeons and neurosurgeons in side-by-side treatment of chronic back pain, scoliosis, and other spine and spinal cord problems; and
WHEREAS, Carroll County and Norton Spring View hospitals provide access to quality health care to their respective regions; and
WHEREAS, Norton Healthcare has launched Norton Healthcare Scholars, which combines college scholarship money with work and mentoring opportunities for students majoring in health care disciplines, and has now provided scholarships to nearly 800 students. Norton Healthcare is associated with private colleges and universities in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to provide students with allowances for tuition and expenses in exchange for a commitment to work for Norton Healthcare following graduation, allowing many people to enter the workplace or to be re-educated for a modern health care career;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives expresses its sincere appreciation to Norton Healthcare for its tradition of health care excellence, commitment to quality, responsiveness to the health needs of the citizens of Kentucky, and leadership in education and workforce development.
