JOB DESCRIPTION
Science to A2 Level
From: September 2017 - Temporary for 1 year (full time)
Responsible to: Dr A Fulcher, Subject Leader for the Sciences
Salary: Teachers’ Pay Spine.
1.0 DUTIES
1.1 As detailed on the Teachers’ (Terms and Conditions of Service) Regulations (NI) 1987.
1.2 The person appointed will be expected to encourage an interest throughout the College in Science.
2.0 CURRICULUM
2.1 To draw up suitable teaching programmes in Science, with the requirements of statutory bodies.
2.2 To teach Science throughout the school.
2.3 To be a part of the monitoring, evaluating and reviewing process of school policy on Science.
2.4 To be aware of and implement as necessary, developments in Science.
2.5 To ensure effective learning and teaching in Science throughout the College.
2.7 To create a safe and stimulating learning environment.
2.8 To contribute to the learning, achievement and individual success of every student through the use of ICT in lessons.
2.9 To promote cognitive learning principles and creative Teaching for Learning throughout the College.
2.10 To teach a Science up to A Level.
3.0 ADMINISTRATION
3.1 To participate in producing a homework, assessment and discipline policy for Science and ensure its implementation.
3.2 To promote appropriate events and visits to raise the profile of Science.
3.3 To requisition materials.
3.4 To ensure the health and safety of all students and staff within the department and to follow the College’s agreed Health and Safety Policy.
4.0 The foregoing is not an exhaustive list and may be subject to amendment after consultation with the post holder.
Essential Criteria
A recognised Teacher Qualification.
An Honours degree, (at least 2:2) in a Science, or Science-related subject.
Ability to teach Science to GCSE, (or equivalent,) and A level.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Willingness to develop and be responsible for relevant extra-curricular activities which would support and extend students’ learning experience.
Desirable Criteria
Ability to teach Chemistry, or Physics at A Level.
Experience of teaching Science to GCSE, (or equivalent) and A Level.
Personnel Specification
Enthusiasm and energy.
Flexibility.
Willingness to accept challenge.
Excellent oral communication skills.
High level of organisational skills.
