Supporting Argument #1 (1-8) ____
To earn an eight (A), a paragraph must:
o Begin with a clearly stated topic sentence that directly supports the thesis.
o Include two pieces of evidence (quotes and/or statistics) that directly support the topic sentence. One piece of evidence must be a primary source.
o Include clearly argued and thoroughly explained analysis of how all evidence supports the topic sentence.
To earn a four (C), a paragraph must:
o Begin with a relevant topic sentence
o Include relevant evidence that supports the topic sentence
o Explain how the evidence relates to the topic sentence
Supporting Argument #2 (1-8) ____
To earn an eight (A), a paragraph must:
